I have a few problems with my car, and I have a feeling the problem lies with the stock bypass valve, just hoping you guys can help me confirm this.

I have a stock SMIC and bypass valve on my SR.

When I get into boost I can hear a loud wooshing, sounds like its coming from under the fender where the valve is, but its pretty hard to locate when you are driving.

At autocrosses people have said it sounds like a loud sucking noise when I accelerate from the start box.

If I let off the gas at like 1 psi the valve releases. It doesn't seem to accelerate like it used to, but I'm not sure if thats just because I am used to it now, or if the leaking has gotten worse.

I dont think there is any way to tighten the valve so I think I am going to cap it off to see what happens. What is a safe way to cap it off?

Sound like it is leaking to you guys?

I would just cap it off to test to see what happens, and see if thats where my problems lie. I wouldnt drive it around daily with no BOV, I know their function. It's not going to do any serious damage if I drive it without a BOV to test it... CA cars came w/o a BOV from the factory.

when i switched my vaccum lines, i accidentally used the wrong one for my BOV. it made a big difference in sound, maybe you can just try that for a quick test. just unplug the vaccum line going to the BOV, take a spin around the block and see what happens.

driving around with out a BOV will eventually hurt the turbo, but you could probably get tens of thousands of miles out of it before any damage unless running over 12-13 psi. The wheels are soo small and light they get tossed around pretty easily. dont worry about testing without the BOV. it will be a-ok
