Grey was a sweet truck! I found it on Craigslist for $1200 but talked the guy down to $800. It needed a windshield, a fuel tank with sending unit and o2 sensor. I drove the truck through 2 NY winters driving an 80 mile commute at speeds up to 75 mph on the Thruway. This truck never failed to start, never got stuck and returned 19mpg all while I was beating on it. I even crashed it up smooshing the front end in and it still kept running!
Sadly NY salt really begins to take its toll after 14 years. Lots of holes started to form along the body. Suspension parts turned red and started flaking bad. The canister system, which sucks BTW...F whoever thought it was a good idea to put the expensive vent valve right out where the salt can eat it every 3 months, check engine light city, chronic check engine light. The steering gear sprung a bad leak, bad enough to loose power streering. The brakes leaked after a while too. I was forced to drive it while I paid off a car that I got ripped off in which needed an engine. Once I paid off that POS car I was free to buy my Frontier which instantly rendered ol' Grey obsolete.
It was time for it to move on. I had taken everything I wanted from it. It still ran and drove. I parked it on the lawn with a price sticker on it. It sold 24 hours later. I hope it continues to press on for a long time. And with that I say 'bye ol' Grey. Thanks for all the good times!'.
