Been doing the BMW thing for a while, and although I love M3's with a passion, I've grown tired of the "scene". I've been interested in these cars since high school (started with 240z's), and can't wait to play with a turbo engine (hopefully an RB25). I'll be looking for an S13 hatch, and think the best way to go would be to look for a car with a very solid drivetrain, with the kinks already worked out since I don't know too much about this area yet.

If anyone knows someone looking for a BMW, I'm most likely going to sell my project 89 M3 roller, as well as my Porsche 914. Would love to trade, but will most likely end up selling and buying a 240. However, if anyone knows someone looking for one of these, let me know!

Anyways, hi everybody!

Well hey there. You certainly have many options for a 240sx turbo of some type. Let's see here'

CA18DET
KA-T
SR20DET
RB20/25/26T

And those are just the basic ones! If you scroll down on the right side you'll find the engine sections with better information and even further down, the marketplace to buy or sell your ride. Welcome!

That's what I've seen so far while browsing the classifieds. I really like the idea of the RB25, looks like its pretty stout and can handle a good amount of power. It seems like the SR20 is definately a favorite though, maybe a lot easier to tune.

it all depends on your budget, if your set on a rb and have the money, why not go for a rb26?

it all depends on your budget and what you want to take on mechanically

I'd like to ease into it to begin with, just to get used to the turbo stuff, was thinking an SR20DET might even be the best way to start? I've worked on tons of cars, from full builds to just body stuff, but honestly don't know much about Nissans. Would like to spend around $5k on a car that might need some suspension/body/wheels/interior, since I can easily do that work.

If you are basically looking for a beat up fixer up 240, you should get it for a grand or less. If you spend 5000 on a 240, it better already be motor swapped and mildly built...

Yea I'm definately going to be a car with a swap, either SR or RB. Like I said I'm still learning about the drivetrains but can do everything else, so I'd like to get something thats sound, fresh and tuned. Don't care much about anything else as long as it's not a rustbucket.

I do have an E30 M, it's actually a complete car but has the M20 inline 6 currently. Will be pulling it out of the shop today to take some pics. Eventually want to sell off everything except my ti, and buy an S13.

Thanks for all the input guys, will def help me learn my way around these engines and the turbo setups, like I said, seems like a great scene.

You should be able to easily do all of that for about $5k.
~$1500 for a decent running S13 hatch
~$800 to ~1200 coilovers.
~$800 for master bushing kit, brake upgrades, RUCA's & tie rods
~$60 to $100 for a J30 differential
~$700 to $1000 for some Rota/XXR 17x9 or better 4 lug wheels
~$500 for some Federal tires

And spend the rest on chassis bracing & hunting down OEM aero on Ebay.

How much approx were you thinking for a busted e30 M3? I'd sell a kidney for a flawless 88 M3.

Wait who said anything about a busted M3? The only thing wrong with it is that it doesnt have the original engine. They made a total of 2500.... And there is no car without a scene. I have a Trans Am 68 Mustang Coupe with a 306, all the way to a 95 M3. I want a 240sx because I want to learn about turbo setups and never thought I would own anything Japenese. Still lovin it, thanks for all the input!

You said it was a roller which implies it doesn't run, hence why I said busted.

Get a q45 motor or do an RB30 block, RB20 head, cams, huge turbo.

Now we're talking, like that RB combo. Going to browse the tech pages to learn more about it.

Eww, just gross. I love the RB30, but that was a sad sad run.... He made it to 5th gear when that was a third gear pass.

The RB engines sound so throaty, definately would like to find a car with one of those. Was surprised when I heard him hit 5th though.
