As a former Mercedes owner (2001 E320), my suggestion is to be prepared for several rude awakenings over a period of time: (1) Mercedes routine maintenance and service (after the initial covered period -- I assume 50,000 mi.) is ridiculously expensive, and the service shops are not particularly sensitive to owners' cost concerns (they figure, if you can afford a Mercedes, you can afford to pay inflated service fees). (2) Mercedes cars are not as wonderfully dependable as they ought to be for the inflated price. Little things do go wrong -- and cost more for the pricey label when they do after the warranty expires. The cars do last, and the engines are quite good -- my last one was traded in at 198,000 mi., and the engine was about the only thing that still seemed reliable. After the 50,000 mi. warranty ran out, I took the car to a very dependable independent mechanic, who did a far better job at half the price or less. For example, full brake job with Mercedes parts -- dealer wanted close to $1,300, my guy did it for less than $700. NOW I have an Altima Coupe and I am enjoying it far more than the Mercedes I had.
