Q451990 (Heath) has stated that he has not noticed any change in performance, including idle, using the alternate BWD injectors. Does anyone else have experience running the BWDs? I replaced 2 injectors in my 94 Q 6 months ago and now have 2 more bad ones (one reading OL and one at 149 ohms) and 2 more that are marginal at 14 ohms. So, it is time to replace them all. I was wondering if the expert forum consensus is to use Deatschwerks or to go with BWD. I am leaning toward the BDWs as Q45Tech’s equal sized buckets of bad 90-93 compared to 94-96 injectors indicates Deatschwerks' 2 sigma injectors will still fail prematurely.

Heath doesn't drive the Q much and he is the only one as far as I know to use BWD Stage 2 (1994-1996 Q45) Injectors.

I would go with BWD if you have the money.

Thanks Paul. The price of the BWDs has increased a whole lot since Heath bought his set. As I recall, Heath payed about $101 each for his 57674s. NAPA quoted me $196 each, PepBoys said the BWDs were not available, and Kragen quoted me about $142 each plus our 10% sales tax. An on-line search showed Advanced Auto Parts lists them for $137.79 each, but only has 4 available. So, even if you can find them, BWDs are odiously expensive.

According to Scott at Python, their 623270 injector matches the Q45 OEM injector specs. He said the time-to-open latency is 0.7 ms compared to the OEM spec of 0.66 ms. He also said the flow rate is matched at 34 psi and the spray pattern is the same. He said he guarantees his injectors for life, not just 12 months. A quick on-line search shows they sell for about $60 each. He said he uses the same design injector in the Maxima and has not seen failure problems like we have been seeing for the Phase I and II OEMs. When I asked for a spec sheet, he said he would not send me one because I wouldn't understand it. Insult me all you want, as long as you can make my Q run smooth.

Would someone who is a master mechanic and/or owns a shop and carries more weight than me please call Scott at Python Injectors (800 959 2865) and ask for the spec sheet for injector 623270?

If I remember correctly, I went to Advance Auto and they offered me a deal if I bought all 8, but wouldn't let me return them if I had them tested at Deatschwerks and didn't like the results - so O'Reilly matched that deal... I know there was some wheeling and dealing going on...

Unless Python has changed since the late 1990's, they are just remanufactured OEM (read cleaned and tested used injectors) just like Deatschwerks. I used them on my old Q and had leak-down issues. Might have been an o-ring problem but I don't think so. I ended up yanking all 8 of them and replacing them with OEM.

As you have proven Heath, BWDs are still the best alternative, but they are expensive. Did you look at the Bosch 1604284? Guess I am going to go see what kind of deal I can get for 8 BWDs.

Honestly, I have no idea if I have proven anything. Don't take too much from my 6000 miles in service over a 18 months or so... I really need to drive the Q more. :frown:

Soon you should be able to add another car to the BWD injector list. I am just about to take the plunge for some "Black Label" versions to go with the 94-model rail.

Deciding factors for selecting BWD:

1) Supplier or (vendor) should be able to return phone calls.

2) Supplier or (vendor) should be able to respond to email messages.

3) ISO 9000/2000 and ISO14001 certification. I know what goes into those ISO level requirements and it is not easy for an organization to achieve those certifications.

4) Manufacturer should maintain a “Continuity of Business” plan to insure continued operation in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. In other words, if their facility is hit by a tornado, they won’t be blown out of business.

5) Follow Sarbaines-Oxley and Statement of Accounting Standard (SAS) guidelines for corporate governance – thus requirements for a publicly traded company.

To me, a set of new injectors is a significant purchase. I want to go with a supplier that won’t be knocked out of business overnight.

Glad to see another guy doing some research on a company!

Sucks that we have to though with so many companies going out of business.
