Buzzing sound from ballast

Hey guys, finally got my DDM HID Conversion Kit today. Got it all hooked up and I noticed that one of the ballast is making a buzzing sound when the lights are on. Almost sounds like the same buzzing sound from the street lights on the sides of the roads. Is this anything, problem wise or is it normal in most cases?

i would probably say its a bad ballast, it may wrk and stay like that but it deff will have a less of a life time and will eventually burn out, id take it out and exchange it right away.

Damn, and I just got it all completed and put back together. Hmm, will be a project for another day then. So far it's working great. They fire up on turn on, no lagging or anything, and are equally as bright. Just have to see.

i wrk in electric field and i change ballasts in light fictures probably everyday, and usually when i here a ballast makin a buzzing noise i know its goin bad and its usally really hot, and i change them. so i mean you can wait it out untill it just goes dead on you, but dont you have a warrenty for them? Dont wanna wait too long and then you cant change the ballast....

Been doing some net searching and several folks have said that's its a common issue and not necessarily a problem. Unless I was reading it wrong, which I very well could be. But we'll see how it goes though. Thanks for the replies Matt.

I get the same buzzing sound when i fire my ddm's, usually for like maybe less than a minute...most of the time i don't get the buzz at all. I've had mine on there for a while and they seem fine. DDM has a lifetime warranty anyways don't they?

Yes, they have a lifetime warranty, which is why I'm not too worried about it atm. From what I can tell is the buzzing comes from only 1 ballast. But I did some deep net searching and came across a FAQ that even said "Some ballasts will buzz for a minute while it heats up. Then there are some that will continue to buzz. Not sure why it does this, but none of the symptoms have been problematic."

So basically from reading this, its a hit or miss whether itll buzz or not. And from what I can gather that it's nothing detrimental to the performance of the HIDs. Plus when I finally got the fascia put back on I could barely hear it even when I got close to where the ballast is located. So it's not that big of a nuisance.
