I'm new to the forum but have enjoyed reading comments prior to purchasing my Versa and certainly since owning it. Overall I'm very happy with my 2008 SL.

Aside from the occaisional starting issue which I've read about on various threads (thanks) and the "coolant" smell on start-up......I've noticed a buzzing sound at high volume when using my Ipod. Have not had the dealer check it out yet.

Any thoughts?

A couple of things seem to affect this. First, make sure the dimmer switch (left side of the steering wheel on the dash) is turned all the way up and locked. The dimmer can cause some interference. Also, try a different cable if you have one. If you're using your iPod's headphone jack, turn the volume up as far as you can without distorting the sound, then adjust the volume on your stereo very loud. Better yet, try to use a dock-to-miniplug connector, which will give you the best sound (although you won't be able to charge it at the same time.)

Try turning the volume on the Ipod down.

I plugged in my MP3 play to the car charger, it used the mini USB port and the car outlet thingy, and I get the buzzing sound in my radio.

I sometimes hook my notebook to the AUX jack. When im on battery power it sounds fine, but when im chargeing it through the car i get a buzzing noise too. Are you using some kind of charger when listening to your ipod?

I noticed that when it gets bad I can get rid of it by unplugging both ends of the cord, turning the Camel off, then starting the Camel back up...

It helps for a week or so, then I need to do it again.

Thanks for the advice. Let me give you an update. The buzz is there as long as the jack is plugged in and the volume is high. It doesn't matter if the Ipod is connected.

Took the car in for service and had them check it out. The dealer plugged my cable into an Altima, turned up the volume and heard nothing.

They ordered a new radio for me!

buy a shielded cord (like one made by Monster) ... it's electrical interference you're getting most likely...

I had the same thing. In mine I turn the radio down to a middle level (10-14 on the scale) and then turn the mp3 player up to where I want it.

It might not go as loud as YOU want it, but it doesn't buzz either.

Besides...those loud thumping cars are freaking irritating. I don't make you listen to my Enya, don't make me listen to your (insert loud bass thumping music artist here).

An update: Nissan replaced the radio and the new one has the same buzzing noise. The same cables (I've tried a couple) do not buzz in an Altima and Maxima. Again, it doesn't matter if an MP3 player is attached or not.

Does everybody have this problem with the SL system? Please try and let me know. Plug in cable (with or without MP3 player), turn volume past 20 and listen. Thanks for your help.

Paid attention; buzzing sound started about 20. Took care of it by setting the volume at 19.

I have no problem with my ipod being plugged in until I have to have my headlights on. Then the buzzing starts. If I turn the lights off or unpludg my ipod the buzzing goes away. Other then that there is no buzzing. Any suggestions? I would really like to use my ipod during the day and at night but that buzzing is horrible!!!!

One idea, which was passed on to me by a member of this forum: check your dash light dimmer switch. Make sure it's clicked all the way up. That should take care of the headlight-induced buzzing on the aux.
