I need a pair of 265/35/18s, and the cheapest new will run my 250+I'd rather not spend that kind of money on the rear tires, as they will wear out quicker, id rather buy new tires for the front.

My question is, is it a good idea? and does anyone have any experience with sellers that sell tires? or ebay stores that sell tires?if so, the store names and sellers would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I don't know about the whole used tire thing. It's kind of a crap shoot. Sometimes you'll get a good set that might have been taken off a wrecked car or something. Most of the time, I find that the tires are near their limit and you take a risk in putting them on your car. In the size you need, I'd try and see if I could find a set off of a Merc or 7-series. I think they both have stockers close to that size. That may be the exact size of an E-55 AMG. Not sure though.

EDIT: Just checked the E55 AMG tire size and that is the exact size for the rear tires. It uses 245's up front.

I sell used tires on eBay all the time and these are the things to look for:

1. Look at the sellers feedback. If it isn't nearly perfect don't buy tires from him.

2. DOT number. If the tire is more than 6 years old DON'T buy it. Tires that old start to decay.

3. If there isn't detailed pictures and it just says something generic like "great shape" it's possible that you will be disappointed. Make sure there is no plugs or patches (esp plugs).

I would stick to the sellers that sell tires for a living. Post your auction up here and I will advise you further on whether you should buy or not.

Why do you spend money upgrading the suspension and getting bigger wheels to put more rubber on the ground just so you can cheap out on tires? All that suspension is only there to make the tires work well. What is the point in upgrading when your just gonna waste the money you spent on that to be too cheap on the part that really matters?

Not everyone has $500 to blow on 2 tires. It's not a long term solution. It's to get by until you have the coin for what you really want.

He didn't say it was temporary until he had the money... He said he just didn't want to spend the money on tires.

People do this all the time, and its ridiculous. They buy big wheels to "put more rubber on the ground" but are unwilling to spend more on tires, so they buy cheap ones. It makes no sense.

yeah this is a huge pet peeve of mine too. Like the old saying, if something is worth doing, it worth doing right. Tires are the #1 thing worth doing.

They improve everything. No better thing you can do for handling.

There are a bunch of companies that sell used race rubber that also stock used street tires. Lost my GRM but there are ads in there.

Maybe not, but the oem 240 wheels aren't 18" either.

This.

But they're still cheaper than bodywork.

for all you "buy expensive tires" guys

the reason im buying "cheap" tires for the rear, is becuase of what i do with the car,yes i occasionally do mountain runs, and the added grip with the new setup will help non the less ( goin from 7.5 with a 225 to 10.5s with a 265)

but my rear tires usually dont last that long anyway, whether it be, "occasional" lot sliding (in lots owned by friends of mine), for the events i run spares.. (i dont like ruining street tires at events ) or my my rear camber wear, because i have no camber arms, yet. and when i do, ill be running the same -3.6-4 neg. camber.

thats my reasoning for not buying 200 dollar a piece 265/35/18 rear tires.

NOW for the fronts, i do NOT cheap out, nor will i ever cheap out.the Michelin pilots do a great job when it comes to grip.

for those who dont know,my now current setup will be 255/40/18 Front 18x9265/35/18 Rear 18x10

im hella stokd to lower my back end down!

I go to used tire places, and craigslist for my used tires. 225 50 16s for about 25 bucks each. Sounds good to me for a daily driver.
