Post

I've been around this forum for a while. looking at posts.. doing research.

I found a 98 240sx se at a car dealer lately. I am very interested. It's gonna be my first car. the asking price is around 7ksexperienced 240sxers..give me some advise please...

such as.. what do i have to ask the dealer about the car? what do i have to aware of ? what kinda problem do i have to get cleared? etc . etc.

any advise will be welcome..

thank you guys

Well, make sure he isnt trying to sell you a base model and passing it off as an SE.

Should have Foglights, 5 lug alloy wheels, power locks, stock spoiler..that sort of thing.

And try to obnoxiously nitpick anything thats wrong, so you can haggle for a lower price.

car wise: look at the motor and check all the seals for leaks. dont be fooled by that oily spray they use to make it look new. check the hood and bumpers for straightness cause if its not straight the car has been poorly repaired.

test drive it: dont be afraid to punch it and rev it up.

moneywise: dont get ripped off :)

7K sounds pretty good..i paid 6.5k for my 97 base with 82k miles on it about a year ago. Auto too ;(...

Check Carfax. Get the unlimited reports for a month. It's a good deal and you can do everyone a favor by reporting their vins on here :).

When you testdrive it take it on the highway up to at least 70mph. See how smooth it rides at all speeds.

Drive by a wall or tunnel with your windows down & radio off..it'll reflect any odd sounds.

Check tire wear. If wear is uneven between driver & passenger side tires you prolly have alignment issues, with possible suspension problems(like mine had, a bent LCA). The inner tread of the tires may be worn more, which is normal for RWD's.

7k is a super deal cause in the bay area those run up to 10k.

also check to see if there's any trace of oil on the engine block in between the cracks.

cause if there is the they probably steam cleaned it to make it look good.

do a compression test too. it will tell you if the engine is in good condition.

I would agree 7k sounds good.

providing the car is in good shape.

2 & 1/2 years ago I paid 8.5k for my 98 SE w/o ABS no LSD. But, it had all the other goodies. 76k miles and a clean title.

If it checks out good, buy it!

I have not had a single problem out of mine. I'm even up to 115k miles. I am a conservative driver. LOL
