Hey guys, I'll save a detailed intro and pics of course for later. Right now I'm making plans to pickup an 1990 Hatch and just want advise on what I should look for etc. Seems like a good deal. I see shells going for $500 and this guy says he's going to drive it over and drop it off for $700.

Can someone run a carfax for me? VIN: JN1HS36P8LW153295
Any advise or suggestions for checking out the car? I think it's a pretty good deal unless there is a ton of rust. Or bent frame or something like that. Of course it will be hard to tell what kind of problems there are until I start tearing her apart and do compression test etc but I'm probably just going to buy it Today after a basic look over and test drive. I plan to do a swap/build but that will come slowly. First I want to tackle any issues with it and just get it cleaned up and running properly. I see KA trans going for $200 so maybe I'll put one in just so I can drive it while I save up for the build. Thanks guys. Links to FAQ's, Maintanence/Tuning guides, service manuls etc would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NICO.

Looks good. SOHC KA, all one color, with OEM lip. But You are gonna wanna get that PS belt like yesterday.

Make sure to ask about last time it was maintenanced, try see if the know how old the parts are on it. If it was dealer maintained it might have a new timing chain, but most of the time they are about to blow out on the SOHC's.

If its yours tomorrow, start and intro thread.

This should help too.

you wont get a carfax on here, it kinda illegal to do that, you will have to pay the 20 bucks, but you shouldnt really worry as long as it has a clean title and like you said no obvious accident damage or major rust.

the price seems about right, but i would definatly take a look underneath to see this "surface rust"...

So I bought it for $650, the rust on the hatch where the spoiler used to be is pretty bad but other than that the car is in really great shape. The transmission/clutch is definitely not in good shape and I dunno how this guy really drove this thing, The rust underneath doesn't seem bad. This will be a beater project anyway I wasn't looking for a perfect chassis and the interior is in great shape aside from the driver's seat tear. I'll do an intro thread with pics etc tomorrow.
