i have a s14 and well im looking into buying some rims right now. im looking for rims that will clear BOTH 30mm z32 calipers and coilovers [Zeal B6s]

im looking at Advan G2s right now and wondering which offset should i get. im looking at the size of 17s

17x8.5 offset: 45, 37, 30 17x9 offset: 45, 43 17x9.5 offset: 38, 24

those are the sizes im looking at. im not sure which width im going wtih but those are the 3 widths im looking at, im not even totally sure you can even run a 9.5 width, that will give you a flush look w/o having fender flares. if i have the 30mm calipers and zeal B6s coil overs which offset should i run in these setups for a FLUSH look!

17x8.5F17x9R

17x8.5F17x9.5R

17x9F17x9.5R

which offset should i pic for those setups for a flush look? those are the only offsets they have for the rims, and the ones they show on the Main site

TIA

This doesn't exactly pertain to these rims, but I have a set of konig verdict 17x7.5" and the equivalent to a +34 offset (40mm and 5.5mm spacer) and in front with 0* camber they are PERFECTLY flush. Then again, the verdicts kind of stick out anyway, so take this for whatever it is worth.

And BTW, I have only about 3 or 4mm of space between the rim and the spring perch, so watch out if you get a bigger wheel.

hrm..yea i could put that into consideration on knowing what offset not to get and what to get. i dont wanna use spacers since i read the FAQ and spacers can wear down your dampers faster or something like that. so if possible id like to avoid spacers

Porsche has been using bolt on spacers for years, they can't be all bad...

Especially if they are just a small spacer, like mine...

well i got an opinion on what to run and he said

17x8.5 +30 and 17x9.5 +24

would that be a good offset to choose? for those sizes?

uh sure, if you need wheels that wide. I havent seen ayone that needs wheels that wide YET.(I work at a tire place, too...)

that would be your best option, but the rims will be sitting quite a bit outside of the body, you'd need flares from JUN or new fenders(widebody) from http://www.jspec.com or somewhere to make it look right again..

I still wonder why you need rims that wide? or is it just a "I want wide rims because I saw that in a magazine!"

"im looking for rims that will clear BOTH 30mm z32 calipers and coilovers [Zeal B6s]"

well, a flush rim would be more possitive offset in those widths, exactly the opposite of what you need to run coilovers. your pretty screwed until you find out what you really want(or need..like NOT a 9" wheel)

uh, then dont get super wide rims. duh. and you never really know if a rim will clear Z32 calipers until you try them, that has to do with spoke design sometimes(of the wheel itself). for coilvoers, check the FAQ and use the wheel offset calculator to figure out how much closer that rim will be to the stock shock body, any closer than 3mm I'd stay away from it, especially if you intend to run negative camber....

also, spacers are bad, period. -chet

Exar-Kun, you might actually be onto something there with the spacers. I took my car to discount tire to have them balance my wheels and they said that they can't even touch it if it has spacers on it.

But still, they work for me....

yeah spacers cuase all sorts of problems, as discussed in the FAQ. anything that messes with the suspension geometry(think about it, your not actually moving the cneter of gravity on the rim, your just moving the wheel) and adding weight and strain to suspension componenets your bound to cause problems...

17x8.5 might just be too big for the front with Ride-height adjustable coilovers. Unless you want the wheel to stick out. I know a couple of people running Skyline 17x9 wheels and they are right next to the strut and stick out slightly. They are in fact so close to the strut that if you choose a tire that has a rim protector bead, it may hit the strut. With ride-height adjustable coilovers, you lose more space in the inside. You may lose more than half an inch, which would indicate to me that you probably can not get the wheel to be flush.

I'm running a 17x8 in front now with a 30mm negative offset. I still have a little bit of room to the outside. It's hard to tell exactly where this might be for you though since my camber plates pull the top of the wheel in slightly.

The Geometry of running spacers is of no concern. Running a higher offset acheives the same results. SCC magazine refers to the "Dave Point" which is where a line drawn through the upper suspension steering axis(in the 240sx, this is the strut bearing) and the lower axis(the lower ball joint) meets the ground. Ideally, you want the center of the tire(widthwise) to be at that point. The further away from that point you are, the more issues come up. one of them being wheel bearing stress, but this is probably negligible if you stay within the fenderwells. Another being that it can make unbalanced wheel/tires more noticable. Also, since it is farther out, from the steering axis, the tire isn't turned on the centerline, but rather, the centerline pivots around the axis at a given radius, depending on where the centerline is. So in the sense of geometry, it's not the spacers themselves that are the problem, but rather the overall offset achieved by running spacers.

As far as spacers themselves, poorly made spacers may create a similar condition to that of an uncentered or bent hub and is felt as a vibration in the steering wheel. If you do not have enough threads on your lugstuds, it may not be safe. And lastly, too big a spacer can hide too much of the hub so that your wheels can no longer center on the hub, but rather ends up centering on the lugs.

OK, I cant help at all with inside clearance, as I gots no coil-overs, and traditional styley struts, but I can be of some help on the flush factor.

OK, My S14 "ROLLS ON" (thats what cool people say) 17 x 7.5 konig toxins...BFD, right..Ahh, but this is where it gets interesting...My 17s offset is 42 (no where near flush), so after making the stupid mistake of neglecting offset, I decided that this was simply unacceptable and got H&R DRM

http://www.hrsprings.com/site/products/trak.html

25 millimeter hub-centric spacers..effectively making my offset ET17 or some-such, with 215/45/17s it appeared to be almost flush, but I was still in search of a more aggressive set-up, so squezed some 235/40/17s on to those suckers and it could not be any more flush...It looks perfect, handles like a muther-FO, and I even leave the spacers on when I mount my 15 inch OZs with 225/45/15 kumho ecsta v7 hunits for AutoX F@CKEN catz up style! But be warned that i would not want my offset to be even one millimeter lower, as I'm sure it would start to rip up my tires and probably cause some body damage.

I wish I had bought these rims instead of wasting all that money on spacers

Good luck

If you are runing a 30 millimeter negative offset, then you have the most Ghetto fabulous 240sx in the world, I think you might have meant 30 mm positive offset. If I'm wrong send som pics, please.

I'm just messin', but seriou that ain't no negative 30 mm sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!

Thanks for letting me know know about you pet peeve, oh wait a minute I don't care about your pet peeve!

My pet peeve is when people say "number A" and "number B" and then pretend to be educated.

Another thing I don't like is people who use "pet peeve" to describe every little thing that annoys them. If you have like a hunnit (he-he) "pet peeves", then they may not in fact be "pet peeves", but rather merely a list that proves exactly how anal retentive you are.

"Gangsters don't have internet access" do you have statistics to back up this intelligent statemeant or do you just believe that the internet is only for rich honkeys?

Let me guess your other "PET PEEVE" is people who use "quotations" all the time.Well allow me to "apologize" in advance before I start something "nasty"

My sincere apologies to the thread starter, I promise not to indulge in any more flame throwing, no matter what kind of ignorant crap this dude spits. And I hope you found my jive post to be both informative and amusing.

PS I really think you should look into the 225/45/17 Falken Azenis (especially considering yor relatively narrow rim). I have talked with some guys that auto-X and even road race on them as well as drive to and fro, and I have heard nothing but "BOMB DIGGITTY" bouts them.
