I ran across this article last night and all I could think of were the stories I have been told about some of beatings handed out from NICO members to rental cars on the track. Would you ever consider buying one? (I sure as hell wouldn't.)

i agree, it'd have to be CHEAP CHEAP. and usually they aren't.

even if only ONE person in the car's life treats it like I do a rental car then, NO THANKS lol

I get a rental car tomorrow for a week, driving it to NY, fun will be had!

Rental Cars are the automotive equivalent of Prostitutes. And we all know, You can't turn a hoe into a housewife, hoes don't act right.

My boat was a rental. I named it Roxanne.

No way I would buy a used rental vehicle, especially a certain corvette that may or may not have been drifted/flogged until the rear tire treads looked liked bologna skins. :chuckle: Jokes aside, a very good scheduled maintenance program does not negate any abuse at the hands of renters who had no incentive to be nice to them.

Depends on the vehicle. If it's an econobox or van or something then it's probably not really been beat on. If it's a sports-oriented vehicle then I'd stay away unless there was a significant part of the warranty left.

Maybe. Most people are not like Greg and take a turd on a off-road mud coarse

Nah, I meant that people often beat on the POS models because they are POSes. I seen them driven over medians, driven through and stuck in mud, used in questionable towing activities, and the interiors totally trashed.

I would say one in 10 drivers does that ish to rentals, "norm" enough for me to stay away...

Also, it probably depends on what rental company it was owned by before it is sold...

Yeah, I could see buying a pickup truck or an econoline from enterprise, but no passenger car...

To quote a sales guy driving over a curb last week, "Nothing parties like a rental!"

lol. i drove in a rental last friday. dude only had the car for a few days. he drove it from Gainesville to Miami, looked like he was living in there for 2 months, and then drove it back to Gainesville. I must say though, rental camrys (when fairly new to the rental world) are pretty nice to chill around town in.
