Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the input. I'm close to putting a deal together. Most likely for a new vehicle and I'll tell you why. First, I was all set to purchase an '08 G 37 6MT with 14k miles (blk/blk), with prem, nav, 4WAS, Tech and every single option imaginable for $32,900. That price includes delivery to my door, and this was an out-of-state purchase.
I asked for the service records and I read over them and it killed the deal. The transmission had been replaced at 7,500 mi and there were all sorts of other entries where there was a mysterious cluncking sound that the dealer couldn't reproduce, but other problems that were repaired. In short, the first owner had this car at the dealer about 10 times over the course of 11 months of him owning the car. The sales manager tried to tell me that the previous owner wanted to get out of the car because of apparent money problems and, as such, most likely fabricated these issues as a way out.
I mean, while that is a possibility, I certainly do not feel comfortable moving forward with a purchase under those set of circumstances. The sales manager was essentially asking me to assume that the previous owner was lying. While that may be a possibility, I don't feel comfortable moving forward. Another vehicle I found was another 6 MT with nav and prem, with 9,500 miles, going for $30,900. This wasn't sold by a dealer, but rather some wholesaler. The car is on Ebay. It's very nice, but something seems a little scary to me about this car. I know everything is under warranty, but it seems a little too good to be true. And, after my previous encounter with the other dealer, I'm spooked.
So, I've been looking all over the country for a new car and the best deal I found was a '08 6MT blk/blk with premium, nav for $36,900, possibly $36,700. Although it will cost me about $500-$600 to ship, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger since similar pre-owned vehicles are at around $32,800 with 10k miles. I think for 4k, it's definitely worth buying knew since you have no idea what the previous owner did to the car. Granted, that's the same with all used-cars, but I think with these vehicles and the price we pay, it's a little different.
Again, I appreciate the insight and will hopefully have a new 6 MT by the end of year.
