Hey guys I'm new here and I'm looking into buying my first car (I'm 15) and I would love to have a 240sx so I can get into drifting and I think getting a fixer like this 240sx from a local forum that I'm on would be a good way for me to learn more and work on my car until I turn 16. I really just want some advice from people that know what they are doing. Is it worth the price and the work to get this car to be able to be a daily driver and then maybe a drifter on the weekend? I'm not planning on stripping the car or anything like that just lower it so it doesn't look so weird and then simple motor upgrades, etc...

Heres the link -

http://www.sfldrifters.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=64683

* There are more pics on page 2 of the car. I also know that the swap with the newer KA was done 2 months ago and the ride height is goofy because he has stock springs.

Thanks to those of you ahead of time that decide to help me out. =)
OLD NEWS! haha

http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/cto/1988595028.html - Hopefully I can go see it soon and test drive and we'll see how it goes. What do you guys think? Hopefully I can get him down to maybe 2,000 because I dont have 2,500.

can't view the link unless you are a member. as for getting a 240... go for it. they are easy to work on, and cheap to fix/upgrade. as for that 240... idk because I can't see it. just make sure you find a 240 that is remotely stock to start with. that way there are less things to fix that the kid before you f*** up.

when you get one. go ahead and replace cheap s*** that will get you some experience in working on the car. (water pump, belts, gaskets)

I'm 17 and went through the same thing, I got mine when I was 14.

My advice is get something as stock as you can. Don't buy something that has already been modified unless you know the person personally. It's just not worth it and you'll be fixing way more stuff in the long run, period. I would know, I sold mine and it definitely carried a "drift tax" price, lol. Something that's swapped already is asking for trouble. Even though you'll have to get the parts yourself a.k.a they're not on the car already, you'll learn WAY more and you'll know the car inside and out.

Very few modified cars have been "babied." As far as finding a modified 240sx that has been babied, your chances are slim to none.

:werd: find a stock one, modify it to your likings, AFTER A ISHT TON OF RESEARCHING AND SLAVING OVER THE COMPUTER/LAPTOP you will find out what brands are good and not so good for your car/ likings. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON NO NAME BRAND PARTS FOR YOUR CAR, there is a reason theyre cheap and the others name brands aren't. you'll be more satisfied with name brands i would think. i am, but i also dont like cheaping out unless its harmless parts, like intercooler piping, or strut tower bars. anything else. DONT CHEAP OUT. have fun!

Oh my bad guys, well here are some specs about that 240sx.

Bio-
Nissan 240sx fastback 89 converted into a 93 front bumper 180k on chassis, dual cam cluster, dual cam steering wheel, s14 seats, 96 ka24de dual cam swap with auto ecu with less than 100,000 miles(done 2 months ago). S14 transmission with exedy stage 1 clutch and stock flywheel shifts smooth. Fresh hunter green paint job with a flat black front bumper. Sitting Clean on some 16x8 sportmaxx wheels with 3 1/2 inch lips all around. Thats pretty much it this car is a steal at this price and the price is firm, got some really high cost tickets, and court costs that the car has to go! No AC, no power steering, hood doesn't close properly. Comes with extra new parts - dash, rear and front lights. Also comes with alitma and S13 AC compressor with the s13 daul cam ac lines.

-$1300.

Alright thats about it. So is it worth it and how much do you think it would cost to put the AC back in the car?

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Also I found another one. The exterior is garbage it would need new paint and new fenders and bumpers all the way around the car.

Vehicle Description:

Engine/Transmission/Suspension: 186k miles. This car is pretty close stock with no rust.
KA24DE
New Head Gasket
ARP Head Studs
New Timing Chain
ACT 4 puck unsprung
ACT HD Xtreme Pressure Plate
ACT Throwout bearing
JIC Coilovers w/pillow ball mounts
New Subframe (Hicas Removed/New Bushings).
Welded Diff
MSD Blaster 2 (not installed)

Interior:
S14 Driver Seat
NRG 4-Point Harnesses
NRG Steering wheel
NRG Quick Release
NRG Short Hub
Pioneer Head Unit
Pioneer Speakers
drift button

-$1250

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which one?

I would personally go for that coupe for 2,800 and try talking him down to 2,500.

rebuilt title... it is ok to buy a car with a rebuilt or salvage title, just makes sure it drives straight and examine the frame rails and things like radiator support. you should be able to get him down to $2,000 by mentioning the rebuilt title alone. do not buy just because you want it badly at the time. make sure it is what you want for sure and that it is in good shape.
