I just bought my first car, 2004 Nissan Altima 2.5s and it only came with one key and no fobs. I'm not sure if it is a valet key or what, because it doesn't open the trunk?

Also I'm thinking about buying more keys and fobs (the 2.5s has keyless entry standard if I'm correct), but was wondering if anyone had bought any one ebay and programmed them themselves or had to go to the dealer for it all.

thanks,

LD

What color is the key head?If maroon, it is the valet key. If black, it is the regular key. The car should have come with a normal and valet set (both key and fob). Not only should you be concerned about having a fob and second set, but also about where the hell the other set is and who has it. You should demand the full key set or make the seller pay for new keys to be cut and/or new key cylinders.

If that doesn't work, you can order them for cheap on eBay and have a reputable place cut the keys and program the chip. You can program additional fobs (up to 5, I think) yourself.

If you only have 1 key, you are not going to be able to program the keys yourself either - you're going to have to end up going to Nissan anyway to have everything done - I would go back at the seller and make them pay for a new set as mentioned above.

I had to buy a key fob too off ebay. Make sure u buy the one that goes to your type of car and mode and year. Then you google how to program your fob to your car. Make sure u google how to on your year make and model too. Its free and easy instructions. No tools required when I did it to one of the cars.
