buying jdm s13 vlsd

im goin to go get one from a guy who has several sometime this weekhe has 5 and 6 bolt onesthe ones with 5 have output shaftsgoin into my s13 non absi just want some ?s cleared up1)heard from somewhere that 5 bolt axels are stronger ?2)how can i tell the condition/functionality of em besides holding one side and trying to turn other (is it a simple works or doesnt work)?edit: 3) will they all be 4.36:1 or is that just for the 6 bolt ones? (according to http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/...e.htm its just the 89-90 - are those 6 bolt)4)are there any markings on it that would tell me something more about it?ive alrdy searched for info on them here...sry if its been covered plz post link after done flaming thanx for helping

the only silvia that had a different final drive ratio from ours was the S15 I thought.

A properly working VLSD should be tough to spin the output shafts by hand. After I rebuilt mine, i had a tough time spinning the stub shafts.

The only markings nissan ever put on their diffs were orange stickers saying VLSD. I don't know if that standard was in Japan, but that's what was done over here.

finally, yes the 5 bolt axles will be stronger. The 91+ silvia got a slightly thicker axle than the CA powered 89-90 (which coincidentally has the same bolt pattern on its axles as we do). If you want to save money, go for the 6 bolt output, but if you want to buy some new axles, the J30 uses the same axle with a 5 bolt pattern.
