Has it been recently rebuilt?

Is it just the motor?

Stock?

Really, to give any opinions, we need some more info. Pics won't hurt either.

video of it running, compression test, leak down test, how's the turbo, does it have any problems, what's the warranty, what does it include, how close do you live to the seller, why was he selling it, did he even use it, what did he use it for

if you don't have answers to most (if not all) of these you're about to get f'd.

Doesn't matter how much the motor costs...if it's messed up then it'll cost you potentially 1 to 2 times what you're paying for it.

uhh....where are you getting a complete, good condition SR motorset for $1100 in this day and age?

yeah really. 1100 is a ridiculously low ball number for an SR motorset that will run.

It's not worth it, the ones from Japan are no good. I hear they have like 10 less hp or something!

Under 10K miles is a joke. Maybe that's how many miles he put on himself, but I highly doubt the engine itself.

In fact, there's no way to guarantee how many miles are on it. Even if I had the half cut, I would not believe what the odometer read.

You're right 1100 is too low, I saw an SR being sold for 1100 once while casually browsing - but I havent found that shop's site again, and I cant validate their reputation.

1300 is the cheapest I found - Quebec Canadahttp://www.tokyomotorimports.c....html

1300 - 1800 seems like a good average. see it before you buy it.

so if your engine came from a front clip that had 50 thousand km you would not believe the gauge cluster that is in the clip...

nope

and unless you're going to drive to Canada and deal w/ that crap, I wouldn't buy from them...you shouldn't be buying a motor you can't touch first or at LEAST the people you're buying from

I tried getting one from jdm Miami but they keep giving me the run around. So I ended up getting it from canada -- totaljdm-- It was a bizatch clearing customs but the engine is clean enough to eat off of -- super clean....I will have to see how it runs...

Call me paranoid, but in this day 1300 bucks for a used SR (even a redtop) is super low. I wouldn't buy one of their motors unless I could inspect/test it myself or I had $ to burn and wanted to let the 240 community know if they were good/bad. The average going price for SR redtops, from reputable companies, that I see today range from $1750-2600. Plus, if you look at what's included at that price and then look at the redtop motorset they have for $1650 you'll see that the $1300 redtop doesn't include the A/C or P/S pumps/brackets, sensors, or the wiring harness.

good point,

Its hard when buying your first SR to detect a lemon, but it is possible to get a deal. I didnt buy mine - it came with my car, so I dont have a feel for the SR buying experience.

sometimes the head gets rusted over - and it can spend months sitting outside in japanese junkyards.

on the flip side - Its nice to see an SR with a tomei manifold, a beefy clutch, and loads of goodies just waiting to be bought at about the same price as the others. those are nice.
