Buying an EX35 - Things to watch??

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello,

I am looking to buy a 2010 or newer EX35 or EX37. Figured I'd come here to learn of any issues or things I should be knowledgeable about when looking. I hear some chatter on the net about the new 7 speed transmission but just wanted to get feedback for the forum. On any issues....

thanks for any advice

I have a 2010 with 55k miles. No issues, other than a current problem with it occasionally stalling when starting (see other thread). Brakes needed replaced around 25k miles, which seems to be common with Infinitis. I got nearly 50k miles on my original Michelin tires, but hear others got 20-25k on the Dunlops.

Its a great car - love the way it drives. But if you carry a lot of stuff or have people in the backseat it gets too small really quick!

In terms of potential problems, I don't think there's much to worry about for the 2010s and newer. I believe most of the problems on the earlier models were pretty much ironed out. There is an EX reliability thread somewhere here started by the guy who owns the truedelta website. It seems to me that most problems and repairs on the 2010+ models are random and can happen to pretty much any other car.

The only complaint I've seen repeated was the quality of the OEM Dunlop tires; but then again, OEM tires on most cars aren't well liked.

For iPhone owners, getting the newer models properly interfaced and synced with the entertainment system has been an issue for some. I can't recall all the details here, but there are a few threads about this issue as well.

I've had my cars for 2 days now, it's all smiles for me. But since I have an iridium-lead alloy foot, I'm getting 10.0mpg at the moment.

How many miles are on the car? Infiniti is pretty good about honoring warranties, and unless it has a huge amount of miles I assume it is still covered. I have 45k on a 2011, still has the original brakes, and just replaced the tires last month. A few minor issues (some glitches with the nav screen and inexplicable vanity mirror break) were handled under warranty. Averaging 18-20 mpg with mixed city/country driving and AWD. I really like the 7 AT, which I was familiar with from my G37xS, but I don't think it gives either a big MPG or performance boost, so wouldn't consider a 5AT a deal breaker.
