Hi!

New to the forum here. i'll be buying a 1994 Nissan Altima with a manual transmission by next week. It's got about 140,000 kms. I have a couple of questions to ask:

I'd like to change the transmission fluid on it (aside from changing the engine oil). Does somebody have pictures of the drain and filler plugs? I'd like to know where they are located before I rent a lifter.

Also, what spark plugs do you recommend (ordinary/platinum/iridium)? I plan to use NGK Spark Plugs.

Does replacing the stock air filter with a K&N Air Filter that fits the OEM filter help, or would I stick to the paper-type air filter?

I will be using the vehicle for work as well as hauling my family to do our weekly groceries and some trips on long weekends. I don't plan to put any performance parts on it (yet).

Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

94Altima,First off, welcome to NICO.

To answer your questions,1. I am currently at work, but will get you the diagrams from the Factory Service Manual when I go home tonight. 2. I would suggest using platinum or iridium plugs on your car, if you can afford the extra price. I assume that the 94 is stock.3. There are two sides on the K&N filter debate. Some say that the filter is not worth the money and possibly damages the MAF with its oil residue. Others say that the improved airflow helps the car breathe better. I current run with one on my 03 Altima. I like it because I dont have to change it every other oil change (typically the change point for air filters.)Hope that helps.bud

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum. The Altima I'll be buying is a stock Altima.

Yup, I'll get NGK platinums for the Altima. Just curious, how does Champion Platinum Spark Plugs compare with NGK Platinums? I'll also be using a K&N filter that fits the stock air filter box. Since it is around 140,000 kms, I plan to use Valvoline High Mileage Oil in it.

The diagram you shared is very informative. Now I know where to locate the drain plug.

Again, my sincerest thanks!

What trim package on the 1994 Altima that you are buying?

I dont think you can go wrong with Champion or NGK. You probably want to stay away from the cheap platinum sparkplugs (they cant have a lot of platinum on the electrode tip). NGK Spark Plug________Part No.____Stock No._______Plug Gap G-Power Platinum__BKR5EGP____7090__________0.044 Laser Platinum____PFR5B-11 *__ 2300__________0.044

ChampionDouble Platinum___RC12PYP___7071___________0.044Single Platinum____3071______3071___________0.044

Honestly, I forgot the trim package. I actually got to drive it last year, and it was such a nice car. The owner drives it about 15 mins from his house to work.

All I can remember is that it's got no alloy wheels, it has airconditioning and cruise control. It's safe to say that it's the trim package that's in the middle of the pack.

Thanks for the spark plug info.

Got to talk with my boss today, and he said he is using Bosch Platinum +4 Spark Plugs on his car. He said he noticed an improvement in power. Are they any good?

I think for your application, Bosch, NGK or Champion would do you well.
