hey all ive been looking at an 89 240sx XE to daily drive so i can put my VW under the knife.

other than your typical stuff to look at, are they any specifics i need to check? like any clues to watch for potential typical 240sx problems?

heres the deal: engine is a KA24E with 170,000 miles on it looks like it doesnt leak or burn any oil, and compression is 150lbs on all 4 cylinders. all the fluids looked good, clean and free of crud.

transmission is an auto, takeoff feels a little sluggish compared to another 240 i drove once or twice a few years back and the shift from 1st to 2nd is fairly noticeable (i wouldnt say it shifts hard, just not as smooth as other autos)also when floored transmission shifts at 7000rpms, is this correct or should it be around 6500rpms?judging by the condition of the fluid, i think it probably would just need a little ATF and a good tuneup on the engine, if what i noticed is a problem at all.

well let me know what you think and maybe what you think is a reasonable price for a high mileage overall good condition 240

also what kind of engine life can i expect if it has/will be proberly maintained and babied?

Rust under the spoiler (mostly hatches) and rust on the frame or front strut towers. I dont know how bad seasalt is in Port St Lucie

Cant think off any thing else right now. Search for 'buyers' guide' or something like that. Also check out the 240sx.org FAQ.http://www.240sx.org/faq/index.html

look in the spare wheel well for water. If there is the butle rubber around the tail light is worn out. It is a 10$ fix. Other than that just the typical stuff like milky oil, clean coolant and check tires to see if alignment is ok.
