I need to buy new tires for my coupe but don't want the hassle of switching tires between the seasons. Plus I don't have the money for two sets of tires. I live on the east coast where we get a little bit of everything. I was thinking of getting Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires. I read a lot of reviews on these and many other tires and I think this would be the best pick. I would just like to ask some other Coupe owners what they think and what works for them. Thanks

With almost 45k miles on my G I'd stick with OEM tires. I'm happy with mine.

I just replaced the OEM Michelin Pilot Sports (summer performance) with Bridgstone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (all season) tires for exactly the reasons you mention.

The RE960AS is working out fine so far. Only have about 1000 miles on them. I'm not hard on the car, using it mainly for touring and day to day driving. They are quieter than the Pilot Sports, but the Pilot Sports felt more secure in the corners. As the Potenzas wear in, they're feeling better in the corners. I haven't had the opportunity to drive them in snow yet, but my main concern is sub-freezing temperatures. We don't get a lot of snow here in DC.

If you are a maximum performance driver, you really need separate summer/winter tires. If you can accept some minor compromises for the convenience of a one tire fits all seasons solution, the RE960AS seems to be a good choice.

Howard, DO NOT replace your tires with the OEM ones!!!! They really do suck compared to most other brands.

If you need something on the cheap, try out the Kumho ASXs. I've had two set of them and they were pretty decent. They're classified as a UHP All-Season, but that's a bit misleading. The sidewalls are pretty soft, I thought I had a lot of body roll until I noticed that the dirt on the tires was gone on about a quarter of the sidewall.

If you just drive to get places and really aren't worried about great grip, I'd give them a shot. They're pretty good in the rain and I've never been stuck in the snow with them on. Keep in mind that these tires were on a Jetta and a GTi, so they'll be pretty different on a G.

But for around 60 bones a pop, I think they're a pretty good deal. They start to get a little noisy after 40,000 miles though.

I went to E-Pinions.com, Consumer Reports and Tire Rack, obsessively read up on everything I could find and settled on the KHUMO's (Solus) with a >$350 price tag difference between these and the Turanzas that came with my car. Now, with >10,000 miles there's no noted wear, the ride is supple, quiet and smooth. Their grip in the rain and dry pavement is excellent and they corner well. Their snow and ice handling is equal to what is seen in >95% of tires used on G's.

I drive like an old man in a hat with an occasional fast drive, but that's rare. Also, where i live is extremely mountainous, so cornering, quick stopping, stupid drivers, and no road rules in some places, means I needed good tires. I assume I'll get about 40K out of them. Consumer ratings on the KHUMOS have been excellent over-all. You can order them direct from Tire Rack for about $14-18 apiece for shipping and the price will still be better than a Wal-Mart, Discount Tire or Cosco price. Hope this helps.
