I am in the market for a new ride and really love the G3x series! I was hoping to get some information from this community as to things to look for when looking to buy these cars. I know every cars has it's own unique issues and would be great to know what to look for when I search CL or other for sale sites.

Thanks,
prkrnt

There are certain years that have an oil consumption issue iirc. Someone with more experience will chime in with better info on that.

I also love the G35X. It's on my list of possible vehicles to own down the road.

Welcome to Nico!

I have a 2004 sedan. Has 130k on it. Has some aftermarket additions, but mostly stock. I love the car; it is very solid, spirited, and agile. Haven't had to do anything but normal maintenance since I bought it used.

I think in the 03/04 range there are a few issues that are somewhat common. The power seat adjustment buttons can stop working, the radio/heater center control console can have issues like the sound system not working or the A/C always blows, etc. I've heard that people complain that the brake pads wear fast. If one of the HID headlights burn out, it'll cost around $80 and it's pretty annoying to replace (need to go through the wheel well and remove the lining, etc.). If you go to the dealer as the owner's manual states, it'll probably cost another $100.

If you are getting a manual, they are just loud transmissions and not very smooth. There is a rattle (especially when the car is cold) when you are idling in Neutral and you can feel a lot of engine/road through the gear stick. All of this related to the 6MT isn't really an "issue", just more like a characteristic of the car. Personally, I like it. I think it gives an aura of power and ruggedness. Generally the engine is considered to be very reliable.
