Yea we can only import and plate JDM cars that are at least of 15 years of age. Trust me, if we could import anything I would be driving either a 1999 Fairlady Z, an S15 or an R34.
There have been rumors floating around here they they want to move the restriction to 25 years, but that talk has been going around for a long time with no evidence. Most people believe that to be nothing more than a rumor.
It is not super easy for us to import cars, but relatively speaking to how difficult it is for you guys in the states, I guess it is. We of course still have to get the cars inspected and typically have to do a fair bit of things to the cars to make them legal. That includes things like day time running lights, DOT stuff (headlights, tires, etc...), restrictions on camber and other alignment things (this one car be a bit of a pain if the car is lowered). Oh and lit side markers too (most are just reflectors).
