My friend has an Altima Coupe and his lease is coming to an end. It was a two year lease and he owes about $15,000 left on the car. Is it possible to work out on a new price w/ the dealer? The car only has 11,000 miles on it. He has about 10 grand saved up and he was going to use that as a down payment.

Dealers have insurance for the GAP difference so they usually won't let you buy it cheaper. If the buy out is $16K and they sell it later for $14K they can collect the difference. Most they will usually do is offer a good finance rate on the balance..

Also, the dealership would try to sell the vehicle at its residual value which is, in most cases, more than the actual value of the car. so the buyer may end up paying more than if he/she would've just financed the car from the beginning of the term.
