Hi there, I'm new to the forums! I don't know much about Datsun, except for the fact that Nissan produces some of the finest cars on the market, and I'm assuming they did the same a long time ago. I currently own a '94 Honda Civic EX Coupe that has 175,000 miles on it. In a town not far away from here, a collector is selling his '83 Datsun 280ZX (don't know if it's turbo) w/ 121,000 miles on it for $3,200. I need a new car desperately and I'm trying to sell my car for about $3,400. I noticed in the N.A.D.A listings that high retail for this Datsun would be around $7,000. His car is in super-pristine condition. I just wondered why it is so cheap. Thanks, any advice/tips is/are very welcome!

THere are a lot of 280zx's out there, and a lot of people think that they are ugly (me included).....that makes them less valuable. Nissan lost the pure-sport feel of the 240,260,280z when they made the ZX...bigger, heavier, and not that great of a performer.Of course with enough work, any car can be made into a performance car.If I were you I would look for a 280Z or better yet, a 240Z that way it doesnt have to pass emissions because of its age.The older ones are much better looking, compared to the ZX.

Looks is subjective...

And a 280ZX is lighter than a 280Z.

The car might be valued at 7000, but if the market can't support that, then he'll get less than that.

And some of us never have to do emmissions

I thought the ZX was around 3100 pounds while the 280Z was checking in at like 2800...

I know bumpers added weight...but not that much?

the 280ZX weighs about 2900lbs andyou get 4 wheels disks, power windows, locks, and steering, you get a stiffer chassis, cv shafts, a 5 speed tranny, better upholstery, you even get auto rear defog and heated mirrors as well as headlight squirters and a turbo engine and it only weighs 100 lbs more then the 280z

and 2000-3500 seems to be going rate to 81-83 280zx turbo cars in good solid running condition
