Is it recommended to purchase just an sr block to start a build on? I'm really impatient about the whole deal and money just burns a hole in my pocket, that is I don't believe i can save up to 2500 for an engine swap. If i do decide to buy just a block, what should i expect. I found a seller who has a block but says it needs to be machined, how much would i expect to spend to do that? How much should it cost for this block that needs to be machined?

I spent easily $2000 on my motor build, and that was with a lot of wheeling and dealing. Also, I already had a chassis done up to accept an SR, and a transmission. I also had a big parts pile to pick from around the garage of spare SR parts.

You will save yourself a ton of money in the long run if you just save up and buy a motorset or front clip instead of trying to piece a motor together.

hey, i read your auto to manual swap thread, it was great. What would i have to mod to fit an sr into my s13 coupe?

only thing you would have to "mod" is the wiring harness

for the trans u would eiher need a sr bellhousing to put on ur ka trans or just a whole sr trans......I would recommend just buying a block and head for under 1200 instead of paying 2500 for a full swap when u would be tearing it apoart to build it anyway....if u do decide to go that route i do have a sr in peices...complete head and block and most if not all the little extra hit me up if [email protected]

Buy a front clip if you dont know exactly what you need. Buy a motor set if you know everything you need and have decent connections on getting the extra parts. Unless your very very familier with the SR, i wouldnt piece an entire block together.

Yeah piecing a motor together can take forever unless you have hookups. Especially a JDM motor...
