I'm buying a new 240sx the weekend after this one,for about 400 dollars, The body is straight, and paint is still clean, the interior has been gutted, but i have a donor car for all the interior pieces,it has a ka24de in it, and the guy says it runs strong, but when you drive it,it dies... he said its cause of a faulty alternator/battery, cause it runs fine when jumper cables are attached, but as soon as they are disconnected it dies out.

is this a correct diagnosis?

seeing as i have to drive this car an hour an a half home and through a mountain pass...

engine problems are scary, i mean, if it does die, i can tow it with my other car and trailer.

but, any suggestions on when i buy it?

im going to replace the alternator/battery before i drive it.

Yeah the alternator is toast, its not charging the battery. The battery also may be bad if it has been run down too low for too long. Jump starting wont charge it long enough to keep the fuel pump running hence it dies after you get it started.

There is also a possibility that the wiring or alt fuse is bad, so don't necessarily assume the alt will fix it.An hour and a half is a long drive without a charging system.

Thank you for the replys,

ill buy a assorted fuse pack/alternator/battery.

the fuse panel is just under the driver side dash next to the hood latch right?

i think i went in there once, but a long time ago.

Check the 75 amp alt. fuse under the hood right by the battery. If your looking at it from the passenger side it will be the bottom left
