Hi guys...actually i came across a 240sx its 1989 model with about 108,000 miles...and wondering if should be worth buyingi gave him the offer for 550$..but my brother said it will cost alot of money to fix/buy a head and installing, also doing the body work. so i would like your opinion on it.here's some notes about the car-The car does not have the head on it...the owner said it went bad, so i don't know if putting the head will make the engine run or i will have any other complications -it has rust the owner said "its surface rust and not completely gone through" by the pictures it doesn't look bad- car has damaged passenger side fender and hood caused by hitting a deer- pretty good interiors- i looked up carfax and they said it has 11 records, and since i don't have the account, i don't know what they are...(if anyone has carfax please let me know..i would like to know what are those records)-from pictures the windshield kinda look cracked...but i just emailed him to confirmplease let me know if this should be a good deal...here are some pictures.

To be honest, if I were you I would just wait until I found a running and in good condition 240.

A couple months back I was debating buying beat/auto 240s, but i'm so glad I waited for a nice rust-free manual running 240.

I know it's hard waiting around for a good deal, but it will be better in the long run to have a good solid starting point.

Keep looking around man!

I concur. Wait and find something that has very little to no rust and at least runs. If your planning on swapping you want something strong and in good structural shape.

I have a head ready for turbo, for sale if interested later... $300

But agreed, should save and get one in better condition. It does get pricey but its so worth it. Curtain parts are hard to come by without going to nissan and paying out the a** for them.

hey guysthe owner of the car came down to 280$...u guys think i should buy it for this price...put a new engine in which i can get for 250$....and just drive it as a daily driver cuz my i need a daily driver car too by this i will learn and get some experience on how to swap out an engine...then in a year i can buy a good condition s13 or s14 and build that one? and sell this one.

OR Their is another s13 '89 hatch selling for 450...little damage on front bumper, and little rust spot on body and also one rust spot on the underbody. This car runs but need a timing chain, timing chain cover, and timing chain tensioner...which will cost about 500 to get it fixed. (parts from nissan)also if i get this car would it have damage to engine since the coolant is mixing with engine oil when the car is running?

i'm just wondering which one to get? any help would be greatthanksjay

280 isn't bad it's probaby worth that in parts. I wouldn't get it as a daily driver as you have to fix it to get it running. If you need a daily go get one first then pick this up as a side project so your not rushed. Since you want the experience of engine swapping it will take some time and a lot of reading. Unless you find a whole engine with the wiring harness on it. Then you can drop it straight in.

Oil and colling mixing is a head gasket. Which means you would probably need a head for that car.

do it.

are you going to swap to 5 speed as well or keep it auto? also if you are putting another engine in, i highly suggest finding a DE, the sohc is ok but after having mine for a few months now i really notice the power difference.

ps, get rid of the ricer red interior accents asap, ty.
