i am currently looking at 3 240sx's with the sr swap allready done, i was going to have a local shop do one for me, but i found it to be less expensive. what riskes am i taking. what should i be looking for specifically. are there any parts of the swap that are notorious for being easily messed up. i have read up alot on these cars and fell in love with them. any and all advise is much appreciated.

oh shut up rookie...Anyways, I would see if the car can hold boost. Check the turbo so see any evidence of leaking oil. Look at the motor to see if it's clean, and if it is, it has been taken good care of. And oh, go with your instinct.

they dont " crap out" at 60,000 miles. Just bc theyre thrown away at 60k bc its the law in japan to do so doesnt mean nissan makes crap motors. Just change the oil every 3k miles and youll be fine. And if ur buying a pre-swapped car then i suggest i check teh engine compression and check teh turbine to make sure everything is alright.

The risks are that you are buying the motor from someone who has no idea how to tune a turbo. If I were, I'd be looking for one that has been barely modified at all, and hopefully is still running somewhere close to stock boost.

Stay away from anyone who has been running 14psi on the stock turbo.

Try to find one where the guy has installed some gauges. Find one with an upgraded fuel pump. Find one from a person who was more interested in making the motor reliable, than making serious horsepower. It's really easy to mess up a turbo engine. There are all sorts of "tuners" here in Cali, grenading engines all over the place.

it all depends, it could last you 10,000 miles it could last you 400,000 miles, it all depends on how well the motor was taken care of. just like AznRide, phax and the other guys said, look for certain things, ask a lot of questions, make sure the owner know what he's talking about, really pay attention to all the details. If you find a good one i'm sure it will last you way longer than 60,000 miles if you take care of it like you should

thank you guys, this will help me out alot. i have a couple of shops that my club is working with for pretty much anything. so the tunning will be profesionall, and i'v found two that have a completely stock body and sr. one with a kit and "minor mechanical probolems". i know these are somewhat simpler setups, other then major internals blowing, what are the week pionts of the sr motor.

Like any turbo motor, if you don't get it enough fuel, you will have problems. People have put down 500+ dyno'd horsepower on the stock bottom end. The stock valve train is SOLID to 7000. I wouldn't want to rev it any higher without some upgrades.

In it's stock form, the SR20DET is a pretty bullet proof motor. You'd have to miss a really high RPM shift to do any damage to it. The problems come in when people try to tune them.

i have an excelent tuner in the lee summit erea that has alot of experience in tuning. he is currently working on my club members turbo civic, tunning to 16- 20 psi, dont worry, fully forged everything, quife lsd, to much to even remember. enough about that. iv hearde of metal head gaskets and other things when swapping the engine, what is the number one thing you would do if you did the swap to ensure the life of the engine.
