I'm going to trade up from my 1993 black on black Q!

By the way it hasn't given me any reason to trade other than it's been such a relaible and fun car that I'm anxious to try a newer model.

At 152,000 Kms (< 100,000 miles) it has required only routine maintenace save for an O2 sensor a few months ago. It doesn't even rust in this wintry Toronto climate

I'm thinking of a 99 to 01 model but I'm not sure what the T versus regular model features are for those years

Can someone outline at least the major feature differences to look out for?

Thanks in advance

George

The T models on the 1st and 2nd gen Qs mean they have a rear sway bar and other handling goodies.... Nothing to do with power....

The T means touring....

On the 94 and pre models, the T model got SUPER HICAS, the 4 wheel steering option... Its benefits and effects are only minor.....

If I were you, Id get ahold of a 94 or 95 Q45t or even a Q45a.... I think most would say youd be disappointed with the Y33 going from a G50..

Wanna trade???

Why the downgrade? the 97-01 used a smaller 4.1 litre engine, and McDonalds strut suspension.really a totally different driving automobile, that shares the name only.do your chain guides if not already done and enjoy your car! the 97+ would only make sense if you are unhappy with the performance-luxury balance of the first generation version, going with the newer one is totally changing the type of vehicle you drive.

Chain guides were only on the 90-93 models... No reason to do on ANY 94+ model.....

IMO the 94 or 95 is the best of the Y33 generation and the 90-93... Awesome performance, a bit more modern styling, top notch quality, great ride, etc.....

There's a good possibility that your 1993Q has the updated guides, but the only way to know for sure is to pull the front cover and check. I'd certainly lean toward keeping your Q. If not it would be a great car for a NICO member - even if you have to swap the instrument cluster to change from KMH to MPH (or just read the small numbers).

I agree - I wouldn't take the downgrade to a 97-01Q unless you have some specific reason to do so - no offense to the 97-01 owners here! I'd either hold out for the 02+ Q to go into your target price range, or stay 1st gen!

Thanks for all the advice.

I didn't think moving up 6 to 8 model years would mean less enjoyment. I'll take the advice and wait for the 02's to drop a few more thoiusand and get one comimg off lease.

I'm sure I can get another couple of years of enjoyment out of the old black beauty.

I'm the second owner. The Q45 weaknesses were looked after under warrenty by the original buyer. Air conditioning and roof motor were repaced at about 40,000 miles. I baby the transmission with a yearly (11,000 miles) flush, pan drop and synthetic oil

The date-of-manufacture was Nov/02 and the serial number is well past the supposed cut-off for updated guides so I'm taking a chance they're OK or will at least have the good grace to disintegrate without mass destruction.

Besides I don't have a Tech I have any confidence in here in Toronto to work on the guides. The Dealer closest to me does not inspire any confidence.

After 3 consults two years ago on a hesitation problem at 1,700 to 2,000 RPM they still couldn't find any problems. Finally I emailed the consult readouts to Dennis. He suggested three probable causes. I took his email to the dealership and sure enough the first cause suggested - O2 sensors was it. THANKS DENNIS! Replacing one sensor was less than the cost of a consult...and I paid for 3 without any results.

Thanks Fellas and let's mail in those NICO contributions.

I emailed QBOAT and he said that he replaced the rear 02 sensor and it fixed his hestitation problem.

Anyone knows why the rear 02 sensor would cause this hesitation problem?I thought that the rear 02 sensor does not affect the performance of the car at all.

Failure (intermittent?) probably caused too rich fuel/air mixture in that bank, thus affecting drivablility.

In that case, I need to get my rear 02 sensor fix soon. My rear 02 sensor has tripped the "service engine soon" twice now. I thought that the rear sensor does not affect the performance of the car, so I have yet replaced it.

When any OBD2 sensor shows a error that exceeds 20% of what would/should be normal besides sometimes turning on a MIL, it signals the ecu to select less than optimum performance [much like when knock sensors fail the test].All designed to protect the engine and enviroment.
