Okay, I bought the 2014 Nissan Rogue SL on 04/01/2014. I test drove the Mercedes GLK and the BMW 1x prior to buying the Rogue. It seemed much quitter than my Honda civic and had what I am looking for.

In the past week I have had a bout of migraines, and it just seems like the wind noise is getting worse in the vehicle. It is driving me crazy over the last couple days, and I know it must be in my mind that it seems louder than when I bought it last month.

The Mercedes and the BMW didn't seem any quieter- but lately I have seen the ads for the Buick Encore and its noise cancelation technology... and think.. should I have test drove the Buick?

My husband would kill me if I told him that the noise is driving my batty, because that was my excuse for getting rid of the 2012 Honda civic.

Is there any way I can quiet the vehicle wind noise down? It doesn't seem to have weather strip leaks.. it just seems loud when vehicles pass me I can hear it all on the highway. I don't think I noticed it before now because I was enjoying the bose sound system, but with the migraine I went from having the radio at 16 down to having it a 9 or 10, so the wind sound seems terrible. :(

I know this doesn't answer your question and I'm sorry for that but, if I were in the market for a GLK or X1 I wouldn't cross shop a Rogue. I want to say you should have stayed in that Mercedes price range if you wanted a very quiet ride

I hear you- however I wanted a vehicle that it wouldn't "hurt" to put three muddy kids in the back seat. Something practical. My husband is more particular about his vehicles so he is driving/commuting in the Mercedes. And the Rogue is the "family" vehicle. Honestly I hated the look of the BMW, and I didn't find it any quieter than the Rogue AND it was 15,000 more .. so why pay more for the same thing? I found the GLK very stiff- It reminded me of driving the F350 I used to haul my horses with. I liked the way the Rogue handles like a car, but has some size. It could be just me- Anything I buy I would look at something else and wish I bought that. I'm fickle I guess. I would go with a lease, but I put 25,000 miles a year on a vehicle..... so lease is not an option. I will drive the Rogue for 4 years, 100,000 miles- I purchased the extended warranty to make sure the Rogue will last the 100,000 miles.. it was worth the money for no worries.

you made the right choice. the glk is a nightmare to own. the air suspension in that car costs $1,000/EACH; there are 4 of them. they dont last forever, and would need to be changed around 40,000-75,000 miles or so.

the bmw has cut everything from the 1x. it cut the car down to an German corolla. you'd have to pay through the nose just to get anything BMW is known for: music, comfort, class, agility, visual equipment such as HID lights, etc. not worth it in my book.

the rogue gives you japanese reliability mixed with economical parts that dont require an additional loan to replace (cough:cough german replacement parts.... cough:cough) ;)

if the car is making that much noise, i'd start with figuring out what the noise is. is it wind noise coming from a leaky seal? tire tread noise due to too much air pressure? noise in the wheel well area? or is it YOU thats simply sensitive to wind/road noise. it seems like you had similar issues in a honda. you dont think that you simply hear different pitches than most other people?(its actually common. i knew a guy that heard certain pitches in a much louder format, than most other people. it caused him great discomfort. particularly chip or food bags that made the potato chip bag noise when folded. it drove him nuts. he could hear it a mile away).

try to clean the edges of the windows to help insure they make a good seal with the rubber window moldings. both inside & out. if they have trapped debris or sand, that can sneak in some wind noise.

Take a deep breath and try to relax. The 2014 Rogue SL is an amazing car, and you will get used to the noise once you stop obsessing over it. You can't compare the 2014 Rogue to the Encore. We got in the encore and got out immediately as it felt too small. We test drove countless cars (including the X1) before settling on the Rogue, and we are extremely happy with the decision almost 3000 miles later. Nothing in the price range comes close to the comfort and the utility of the new Rogue.

Unless something is broken in your Rogue, the wind noise is not excessive. You are doing what I have done many times in the past (and with not just cars) - hyper focusing on the one thing that bothers you, which in turn amplifies it ten fold. Focus on the positives instead. There are plenty of them! If nothing works, try therapy :) (j/k).

ImStricken-

I think the wind noise I am hearing is the normal noise, no leaking seals IMO. I'm just hypersensitive to it. I notice it more if it is raining, or when I have one of my migraines or a headache. If I am listening to good music and have the Bose sound system going, it isn't really noticeable. It really does give a great ride- I should not have any complaints. lol

VMX-

Thank you for the post and insight on the Encore. I would probably have felt the same way if I had sat in the Encore. I noticed there were also complaints about the Encore's lack of power. Did you drive the Encore or only sit in it? I don't think I would want to have any less power than the Rogue currently has. It is probably the unknown of not having compared the two vehicles. As I told ImStricken I don't think there is anything broken-- in the vehicle.. in my mind.. yeah, therapy might be the best fix lol. ;)

Most every vehicle will experience some degree of wind/cabin noise. However, Lexus probaly does the best job at cancelling out wind/cabin noise. :) Where do you think the wind noise is coming from? It seems as though you have determined that the noise isn't coming from bad window seals. If you want to reduce the noise you could have dynamat http://www.dynamat.com installed inside your vehicles doors, under vehicles floor carpet, and above your headliner. The labor will cost you a bit, but you would reduce road noise significantly. :yesnod You're best bet would probably be to accept the fact that you purchased a '14 Nissan Rogue and not a '14 Lexus RX350.
