I am looking at a 2013 Altima 2.5 S. 97K on the clock and all maintenance performed. Asking price is 6500. No issues with the car now or in the past. I'm concerned about the CVT issue though. How bad an issue is this? Does the failure affect 1 in 500 cars or 1 in 5000? I don't see a way that I can determine that. Usually only people who have an issue post about it so the number of reported failures alone doesn't tell the story. Would you purchase the vehicle or avoid it?

I know I'm the one on the hook for the decision so I'm not asking anyone to tell me what to do. I'd just like to hear from some folks with a more complete perspective than a single individual reporting an issue.

Anyone driving a high mileage 2013 with a good experience?

Thanks to all who respond.

The Altima is good in almost every single thing, except the CVT. My opinion is avoid CVTs like the plague.

If they would put an automatic in this car it would be the best competitor in the segment. For that and other reasons, I'm never buying any Nissan ever again. Owning this car has been frustrating once it started breaking down on me.

Buy the Car and Add $2,500 to that in the future to replace the Transmission. Otherwise its a solid car and I love my 2015 2.5l 4 Branger SV

Avoid. Like stated above, if it didn't have a CVT it might be a class leader. I own a 13 SL 2.5 with 99k on it, 95% hwy. miles. Elec. power steering whine, alternator growl and the bad projector low beam which take a new non-Nissan assembly to fix. All issues Nissan would not remedy. Now I'm having a strange Hvac/engine cooling issue which I feel might be costly. Also had a 14 Sentra SL that had two failed CVT's. Never again after the Altima goes.
