Some of you may have got the same thing in the post/mail recently.. the "Nissan Buy Back Event" flier. Anyway to cut to the point.. if this flier if it's to be believed it's offering me close to $14,000 based on "average vehicle condition" for my 09 Versa which I paid $13,500 (out the door and hopping off the lot) not even a year ago? I know this is a marketing ploy to reel me into a dealership so i'll trade up and spend more money but still found it odd, well funny actually. Has anyone else out there been offered more than they paid for their car as a trade in?

I'll admit part of me is very tempted at this because I started out wanting a 1.6 with A/C and power locks/windows ended up with a 1.8 with a/c without power locks lol. Of course now am tempted to upgrade to an SL! lol insanity is it not.

The way I would look at it is.... what would 14K get you?

Things to consider..... what do you owe (if any on the car), what is the Interest rate, and loan term (if loan)?

Also things to think of... what would a new car cost to get into? Would you go used?

That said, if someone offered 14K cash for my 09 with low miles.. I would sell it today. Don't get me wrong... the Versa is a nice car but, I would go used Jeep wrangler shopping.

An interesting thought! Believe me if that is to believed i am very tempted but.. the way the economy is at the minute and the fact am payin off on this thing quickly does make me think best to sit tight and be free of a car payment in a couple of years instead of lumped with additional debt.

I agree 100%.

I got a mailing last week about coming in to test drive and buy a brand new car. Are they stupid? I am still paying off my Versa, why would I buy a second new car with them? Plus who says I want another Nissan next time around!

Yes this is just a ploy to get you to come in. There is always some kind of LEGAL way out for them not to giving you the $14k.

What this mailer actual is in realisticly is bait. You know like you put bait on a hook when you go fishing to catch a fish. you won't get everyone but you will get that 1 almost everytime. they hope for this to happen. You go in they say yes we can help you with that and they won't look at your car untill you see 1 of theirs. you look at it up and down. start to fall in love with it little by little. Test drive it around the block and they make you start to emagine the car and you on the way to work and parked outside your home or even an a nice road trip to Vegas or where ever you have been thinking about going on vacation. then when you get back your basicly in love with the car. they will look at your car and go oh yes your car is in perfect condition and then say something like but this or that and not give you the $14K. lol did i just give a perfect describtion of what they want? oh hell's ya :D but lets continue, they hope you will want it bad enough to buy it no matter if they don't give you the $14K.

I used to be a sale's man at a Nissan Dealer in California and I hated these Mailers because this is really giving people false hope. take it from someone that used to work in the industry. you get a mailer from nissan to trade in your vehicle, just throw it away. only keep specials for service.

I just received one of those letters today. They want to buy back my 1998 Nissan! It's a 2007 Versa! I've never had a 1998 Nissan anything!

The letter came from Metro Nissan, who just serviced my car. They tried to take a routine oil change service and pad it with additives and other junk to make it $140! Do they honestly think I would trust anything they say?

I've no doubt that is of course bait, it's tempting but as we know they just want an extra body in the show room so they can work on them. I'm very happy with my Versa all I need to do is pay it off.. well maybe install power locks and get a tint but otherwise it's perfect. I don't want to reset my car payments!

this what i think.

Think about it if its worth it to you?
are you happy with the car you have?
is that feature that you want really that important?

just somethings you should ask yourself before moving forward. this is not so much a bad thing. but just make sure you know what you want. and what makes you happy. i always say if its not going to make my life easier or happier, do i really need it?
