I was walking around the Infiniti dealer this evening and noticed a small oval shaped button under the tail light on the drive side.

Its not on coupes, and I'm not sure if it is on anything lower than an 06 (as thats what year I was looking at) .

Anyone know what it is?

Did you press it? Not sure what it might be, maybe a trunk release button?

Probably the trunk release button. THere should have been one under the driver side door handle as well. Part of the premium package keyless entry.

I dont know..it wouldn't make a lot of sense to put a trunk release button under the tail light on the exterior of the car.

I did press it out of curosity, and even held it in, but nothing happened.

I'll have to go to the dealer and ask. Oh and BTW, it IS on the 06's only.

It's a trunk release button. In the glove box there is a switch to enable/disable the outside button. Coupes do not have it.

It is definately the trunk release button... but you have to have the key fob within a certain proximity for it to be active. Pretty neat feature.

BTW, we just bought a new '05 G sedan. Great car... my wife absolutely loves it - which is unusual for her. Before she met me her description of cars went something like "the little blue one with the round black tires." Now she knows her car's HP rating

I'll try to post an official "new guy in the G forum" thread as soon as I get a chance to wash her and take some pics. It's been cold and rainy here a lot lately.

I have the '06 w/ Premium and this button as well as the one under the door handles makes it possible to just leave your key fob in your pocket all the time. Never have to figure out what pocket your keys are in any longer. Neither button will work without your fob in close proximity to your car. In fact, you need to be within a couple of arms length away from the button in order for it to work. For example, if you are near the front driver or passenger door, the rear trunk button won't work.

I think the keyless fob is a great feature and extremely convenient. It is also impossible to lock yourself out of the car if you forget the fob in the car.

The system is called Intellegent Key. The button under the tail light is body colored. There is one on each front door which are black rubber. The keyless remote has to be with in a foot and a half to work with out taken it out of your pocket. The remote can still be used as the tradional style as well. It is only available on the premium package 2006 G35's. It came with the premium package G35x's in 2005 only. It can be used as a truck release when the car is unlocked.
