well i am putting my sohc back together, and i matched up the punch mark on the rod and the oil pump, then slid it into the front cover, then i go to slide the dist back on, and it seems to be in a different position from when i first marked it, its about 180 degrees off, if this because its a different oil pump?

also does anyone know much about removing the mess of hardlines behind your head? would i be ok to just leave that off?

I unfortunately can't help with your oil pump dillemma.

However all the emission vac lines/hoses can be dumped.

There should be a half moon shaped dowel on the distributor side ot the spindle (shaft that drives the dizzy) when installed, the flat side should be facing foreward and the round side aft IIRC. I might be wrong. Just take the pump out again and turn the spindle 180* and re-install. You cant put the spindle and pump in at the exact degree needed, the drive gear teeth are radiused so the gear naturally rotates a little durring instalation. You just have to kind of play with it for a while. I had my dad watch the dizzy side while I installed the pump. If it was wrong, he'd tell me to turn it a certain way and try again.
