Does anyone know why I can't buy JUST the master cylinder CAP (i.e. brake fluid resevoir cap) for a 2015 Nissan Altima S 2.5L?

Or better yet, does anyone know a part number for a cap that will fit my master cylinder?

I called Nissan and they said I had to buy the $240 master cylinder to get the little black cap. Really Nissan?

Well I did some quick internet research and found that it is true, you can't buy the cap separately from the master cylinder for this vehicle from Nissan, so you will either have to find a cap at a junkyard (if you are lucky) or on eBay. From what I found it appears the only Nissan vehicles that use the same master cylinder in your vehicle are the 2013-2015 Altima and 2013-2015 Maxima. The part number for the master cylinder is: 460103TA0A

Of course, there probably are caps from other vehicles that would fit, but you would most likely need to test fit them, some junkyards might have a box full of different caps that you could try.

I checked eBay and found that nobody is currently selling only a used cap, but there are quite a few selling used master cylinders with the cap. The lowest price I found was around $60.00, still too much money when you just need the cap, but still much better than spending $250.

Glad I came across this thread as I was in the market for the master cylinder myself. The part number was verified to fit my vehicle per VIN so I went ahead and ordered it. Not interested in used parts or aftermarket parts so I went ahead and ordered the new OEM Nissan part and still saved about $90 bucks. I ordered it through a source that my buddy strongly recommended so I felt confident ordering it. Here's my latest purchase https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/n ... 3ta0a.html

The concept behind it is 'unitizing' of parts, or combining lots of formerly 'sold separately' smaller parts into bigger assemblies that cost much more. The OEMs have dropped back to that to increase parts sales, it seems they cannot afford to keep all those glass showrooms open selling parts that cost under $50 each.
