Ok, as some of you know how a much of a PITA a bushing is to install, I dont have access to a press or vice. I have a vice, but its not conected to a table or anything. I can remove the rubber bushing out, but that damn metal housing...believe it or not, Ive been to 5 shops, and only one could do it for $60...$60 just to use the machine for less than 5 minutes.

Ive read a couple of FAQs about the install, and all of them use some sort of piping to push/push against the bushing + metal housing, and also to press the bushing in. Where do I get this piping from as I have been to lowes and home depot to no avail. And what size is the piping?

Get a stout threaded rod, a bunch of washers bigger than the bushing and some nuts. Put it through the bushing with lots of washers on both sides and a nut on each side. Crank it down to walk the bushing in.

Helps if the bushing has recently been in the freezer, as that will make it a bit smaller. Hitting the part you are pushing the bushing into with a propane torch for a little bit will also help by making that bigger.

This method isn't perfect, but it's cheap and can get most bushings in if you're patient.

Well, the major thing is getting the metal housing out. I can find ways to get the rubber out, but that damn metal housing is something I dont have the tools to get out.

This shop said they'd charge $60 JUST to get the bushing out (because he doesnt think the bushing will fit, instead of listening to me).

Why charge $60 for something that will take 5 minutes?

Have you tried a 3 jaw gear puller? Might be able to get the jaws to rest on the outer metal sleeve, then put a few washers on the end of it and crank it down. Heating up the outer metal sleeve will help a bit.

Sounds like you've got a $60 budget to get pretty inventive here... :)

I used an air driven chisel.. popped out within a minute or so, just have to be careful not to funk up the housing.. mine got scratched but i smoothed it out and it seems to be ok

I used a vice to install the new ones, im talking about T/C Rod bushings, so what i did may not work for you..
