Car: 1991 Nissan 240sx, Hatch, 5speed, 210k miles still (was i guess now) running strong...

I went to have my clutch replaced and while i was at it i decided to have a full checkup anyway. And my car was running on 3 cylinders... it has a burnt valve. I was just wondering what you guys think i should do. Should i find a newmotor or get this one fixed? I am looking for the cheapest possible route. Also i shop would be preforming everything and not me. So if you know any good ( and cheap where possible......) shops around North Cali. that would be great. Thanks for any and all imput.

at 210k miles replacing just the bad valve isnt really a logical choice. so if you repair this engine it will need a thorough overhaul which could be costly. getting a used motor with lower miles would probably be a better option. where in norcal are you.

Pittsburg to be exact, near Anitoch and Concord, Walnut creek would be the closet cities.

i dont know of any shops in the east bay other then nissan dealers there. any one of them would be a good choice most of the dealer techs in that area are pretty well up to date on nissans since the training facility is right there in pleasanton. but going to the dealer might be a bit costly labor rate there is like $110 an hour and they will get you for 10 to 12 hrs r&r time. I know of one good shop in the north bay in santa rosa but i dont think the owner is taking on any new cleintel. There are a few shops out here in the sacramento area that are pretty good but their labor rates are up there. You gotta pay for the reputable shops I guess.

yeah, thats usaully the way things work. well if i were to get a new engine, i cant afford an SR or RB or anything, i would just be gettin a newer KA. Do you know of any places where i could find the engine? also, i know that it would not be the most logical thing to get it repaired, but overall (parts + labor) what would be the price difference between gettin it repaired or gettin the whole engine replaced?

I dont keep this stuff in my head about the years of engine change in the lower lines. at the dealer we mostly see max, path form those year hardly any of the other lines like sentra, 240,200, or trucks cause our labor rate is pretty high. but i did know it was around that time when the engine went from SOHC to DOHC. thought it was 92.
