Burnt shifter?

I removed my center console and shift boot. Both were totaled(cat pee and crap all over them).

Anyway.. I look at the bottom part of the shifter where the metal is and the silver looks a little burnt... what the hell does that meen?

Is there lube that has to go on it?

eh, mebbe it is just gear oil that has just baked on the metal... like when u take off your valve cover & see what happens if u don't change your oil every 3000 miles/ 3 months...

lol. I bought the car in a not so good condition. I never really noticed the smell till after a while...
