I reved up my engine pretty high yesterday to about 6000 RPM or so maybe even over and after this i started noticing a weird burning smell comming from mostly the drivers side of the engine, does anyone know what this is or could be? If anyone knows is it bad or does it need fixing, also is it really bad to do that i thought it would be ok since its a high preformance engine but if its not i would like to know.

it's not necessarily bad... The motor was designed to go there. It is important though to allow your motor to warm up properly before spinning it up high, it is an aluminum block after all. Right? What kind of smell was it? Smell like plastic? Rubber? Oil? Or like hot metal? When the motor is cool check the surrounding areas for any contact, check your down pipes, and underneath the car for any kind of plastic bags that might have gotten stuck under there.

Ya im a big believer in warming up your engine from a cold start, i do it every day when i first get in my car or after its been sitting for awhile. When i reved it up it had a little time to warm up but i dont think it was enough compaired to what i usually do which is why i felt like an ideot after i did it. But i would describe it as more of a ruberish smell comming from the drivers side of the engine, ill go check it out in a few after it cools down but ya any idea of what it is or if its somthing bad, or is it pretty normal?

It might be a possible electrical conection in that area. Perhaps some condensation hit something.

If it was that would that be something to seriously worried about or is it no big deal? Does that hurt anything?

I guess you could take it to the dealer, and have the mechanic ride with you to see if it's something serious. I drove a little spirited today; and I did smell something too, but it didn't smell like rubber more like hot metal. So, I'm not really too concerned about it. But, if you are just get it checked out, so you could have some piece of mind about it ya kno?

It depends on what is wrong. It could have been something minor or as serious as wires getting caught on something or makeing a bad connection. I would say just take it to a dealer and see if they can find something wrong.

Just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't come back. It sounds like your car is ok.
