Slow speeds, this does not occur.50+mph for 10 mins or more produces a burning smell, can't pinpoint what it smells like, kinda like clutch/electrical. When I put on my AC/heat it gets stronger. If off and continue to drive, smell goes away.

My brother had a similar problem in his Integra, and he said he needed the "blower" in his AC unit replaced. Would I have the same problem, and is it simply called a "blower" or is it something a little more specific...

I'm a little dissappointed because this occurred on my bro's car at about 180k, and my Sentra had same mileage, and I have "only" 120k.

1996 120k, thanks in advance for any help.

fluid dripping on the exhaust .like valve cover area maybe. once it burns off you dont smell it any more. but after you shut the car down for awhile the oil builds up on the manifold again and burns off once it gets hot.

Doesn't really smell like burning oil, plus the smell will increase when heat/ac is put on, regardless of whether or not the smell went away...

Thank you for your reply, I will look into this when I get back from school this weekend.

the smell increases when you turned on the heat or a/c because it draws air from the outside of the vehicle near the engine area.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, I'm a little slow sometimes (or drunk, but its about the same thing).

When I was driving today it started to smell, so I pulled over...Around the valve cover was completely dry, and there was no oil, stains or smoke coming off any of the manifolds.

It actually could very well be the alternator, as I'm sure it was never changed...but I've never had an alternator smell like that before going out, is that common? Also I've seen no other signs that its going out...(dash lights popping on, ect). Is there any way to check the alternator myself to see if its still good? I'll work on that tomorrow.

Thanks again.
