lube up the tires with vasoline or KY jelly and let 'er rip.

i have some high quality (grippy) michelins in the rear, and i have no problem breaking it loose on asphalt.

ive got a custom K&N intake, thats it, and i really doubt that puts the J30 over the "burning out" threshhold.

maybe you have a california spec model, those were detuned somewhat, well not detuned, but i believe the performance suffers due to some of the extra emissions stuff.

you could always resort to "brake - torquing" it , but i wouldnt reccomend it, its hard on the rear brakes, and probably the ABS system too.

it helps, obviously, to have the HVAC controls set to <off>, so there is no chance the compressor is running.

other than that, you should investigate a way of increasing your low end (expensive).

Agreed with Fred - Your car needs some serious maintenance if it's that weak.

I don't with to highjack your thread but.........Hey Hitman, I have a 95Q, and there is no way in hell it will peel out of the line. Are you saying yours does? In drive, if you floor it of the line? Even when I got mine with 48K it wouldn't. By the time I have mad power it's at 4000 RPM's and I'm going to fast (20-25mph) to spin the tires. I know I'm do for a TB & Plenum cleaning....but @ 48K how dirty could it have been.I just assumed it was because of the heavy car, poor gearing, and low torque at low RPM's. I'm interested in your response as we both drive 95Q's with simular mileage. Could it be because I'm in CA?

Yep - Quella will lay about 1-2 feet of track on a smooth, dry asphalt surface w/o a passenger in cool weather. More (or less) depending on temp and surface. She'd really boil with her old 215/65's on....

Your TB/intake/valves are probably more foul at 48K than most cars with twice the mileage, since it gets shorter trips and probably fewer trips at high RPM's.

Could also be the "CA car" effect (and sh!tty fuel, but we have that here too). Hmmmm. Good excuse to clean the intake/TB/injectors/valves. :D

I have a 95 q also. I cleaned the throttle body and as much of the plenum less than six months ago. I have 215/65 micheins with about 15,000 miles. I can "chirp" the tires for a couple feet off the line, but I wouldn't call it burning.

that concept seems a bit too embarrasing to me...similar to using training wheels to stay upright.

would it work? yes.

would you want the kids on the block to see your training wheels? no.

an AIV is an emissions control device that lets air into the exhaust manifold at idle to keep the catalytic converter working.

look in your manual to see where its located.
