Burning rubber smell from engine compartment?

Not every time but in the last few weeks this has happened 2-4 times. Comes into the cabin a bit.

Any ideas? A belt? I dunno jack about cars...

I've noticed it in mine since it was new. Especially common in the summer.

look at your belts they could be rubbing inward

Just a little side shot here, but are you sure its rubber? Could it be oil? Sometimes oil spilled on the manifold can really smell strong - like rubber. Any chance a mechanic may have spilled some oil on your exhaust manifold - it obviously would be hard to see, and because of the engine covers might not be getting a air movement - hence the occasional smell.

Maybe power steering fluid, etc.?

when i first got my infiniti in february i noticed the same thing but lately after 3500 miles i do not smell it anymore.

I've had the same smell coming from the engine compartment. Still figuring out where from as the Infiniti tech guys couldn't pin point where the smell was coming from. I haven't been driving since Feb. Once I take it back on the road, hopefully it's already been gone. :D
