Make sure its not an oil leak that is causing you to think that your burning oil. 5 quarts low sounds like an oil leak.

This problem could be caused by a multitude of factors. Quite frankly, you're better off ditching the car for something more reliable.

Was the new used engine not under warranty?

My M is buring oil and the dealership is giving me the run around. I told them two oil changes ago that it was buring oil and they did not want to listen. They tried to brush me off. Then, they told me to come back after 1,000 so i went back after 1,200 miles after the oil change. Now, they want me to get copies of all the oil changes that i have had done since i have owned the car. So I have to get copies of all the oil changes from 56,000 up to 95,300. Will infiniti give me a new engine or a gently used engine and will it be under warranty passed the 100,000 mile warranty that i have?

This is all to familiar to me. My '06 45S is on Engine #3 first one oil consumption issues, second one oil consumption issues leading to a thrown rod, and the 3rd engine has started having oil consumption issues and blowby blue smoke. lol I won't be replacing it again. If #3 lets go, i'm putting something else in it. They made these engines out of paper mache and gorilla glue. Sorry for you issues. It is very much not fun.

Do not use full synthetic oil and you problem will most likely be solved. My dealership uses a synthetic blend of Mobile 1 oil for its changes and it works well, consumes about 1 quart in 4000 miles. I tried out full synthetic last time and I burned through 5 quarts in 1500 miles or so. Back on the synthetic blend and all is perfect again.

Solid Advice. Infiniti does not recommend full synthetic oil in these engines. The dealer is service with uses just regular conventional oil, and it burns through it like kindling. I honestly gave up on the engine a while ago, and just keep feeding it to keep it alive but not everyone has had these issues.

As far as the engines are concerned, Middlebh, do you know if they are planning to replace your engine at their expense with a certified used engine?
