Burning oil..?

I'm a newbie car enthusiast trying to learn everything I can for my '91 240sx.

Whenever I accelerate from a complete stop I see heavy cloud of white smoke behind me, until I reach higher speeds. I'm guessing my engine is burning oil and I would like to know what I would have to do to fix this problem.

first off, white smoke indicates coolant burningblue smoke is oil

Thats is true. Next step check your oil see if it has a milky consitency
