Burning Oil

My KA24DE has been burning oil for sometime now, every few weeks I have to throw in 2 quarts of oil. Right now, I've been using 5W30 Pennzoil High Mileage Motor Oil (not synthetic) and its still burning it... Any ideas? My car has 116XXX miles and is an automatic. It isn't overheating either...hmm.

you should try using a thicker oil but other than that you're gonna have to rebuild the motor or swap in another one

Do a compression test, id suggest running 10w30 to. Both my KA's leak from the valve seals, only smokes on a cold start or pulling out from a stop.

its a ka, its suspose to leak oil. It was a factory option from the dealer

nissan motors burn/ leak oil, all of them. its just something they do..

Ummm.... no. My KA has 204,436 miles on it and it doesn't burn oil. It does have a leak somewhere around the pan though. When I pull out of the garage I have like 5 or 6 drops on the floor.

wait i dont understand.. your disagreeing with me but then your backing my statement up??

anyways.. my ka would leak from the pan.. the seal was practically non- exsistant and i would leak about a quart a week and burn another half a quart every other week.. but that mother screwer looked brand new inside. it also had insane compression too. i loved that motor.

agreeded i got no burn or oil leaks. well i have alot of muck on my pan so it may need a new gasket on the oil pan but it doesnt come out fast enough to drip on the floor which is good. Also at 175,000 and im pretty sure im on stock headgasket (need to get that changed here soon).

Mine has 220,000 miles on her and it does smoke, but hasnt lacked in performance, i go through about a half quart a month. it smokes on cold start and anytime i apply throttle after about 5 seconds of idle, but runs strong as ever. i believe its the valve stem seals and piston rings where my problems at, but with 220,000 on the clock, its expected when it doesn't ever see what the lower half of the tach looks like unless im at a stop, and even then i love to rev at hondas...lol

i guess but if its a well maintaned cared for motor it shouldnt lose very much by the time you should change the oil anyway.

mine used to burn oil pretty bad.i was using 10w30.i changed the oil and added 10w40 synthetic and i havent burnt any.its been about 2 months and its still full on the dip stick where before after a month itd barely read on the dipstick

Well i have alot of muck on my pan so it may need a new gasket on the oil pan but it doesnt come out fast enough to drip on the floor which is good.

The muck around the pan and cross member is most likely due to the oil that drips/spills out when you remove the oil filter.

It shouldnt burn oil. And Nissan motors dont just leak or burn oil. If it is burning oil then you have a problem. Neither of my SR20's burned oil except when there was something wrong, and neither did my KA or my old RB20. I would look into it if your RB is leaking or burning oil. Just saying that Nissan motors burn and leak oil, like thats something that should be happening is a cop out for having a beat or tired motor that burns oil.
