hey guys

i have had my car for about three weeks and about 800 miles and i go to check the oil today and it was at the L mark on the dipstick

i read the owners manual and it says its normal for it to burn some oil so i go to the gas station and put oil in the car and its over a quart and a half low

i know its normal to burn a little bit but over a quart and a half in less than 800 miles seems to be alot to me

at this rate at the first oil change at 3750 miles there would be no oil in the car

its still in the break in process so i have not driven past 4000 rpm or full throttle has anybody had a problem with burning oil or why it is happening

thanks in advance for all the help

btw: this forum is the best i spend all my free time here just reading all the post

thanks

I noticed mine do something similar when I first had it. I just added a little oil to it and by the time I reached the first oil change, the oil consumption had mostly stabilized. I think it has something to do with how the VQ breaks in. But keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't continue at such a high rate.

i know that the car take 5 quarts of oil will a half quart extra hurt the engine

have had alot of bew cars (4 in the last 6 years) but never had a problem with oil burning

so i put a half quart extra woudnt the engine always have a little extra to burn

when I 1st purchase my '06 coupe at 300 mile I started to do the REAL break-in process, redline that sucker. As bad as it sound, now at 9K miles , I have put 4 1/2 quart in and at oil change 4 1/2 came out.

Of course the manual will state to drive under so and so rpm just to save thier ***. But really you need to really seal those rings properly and the only way to do it is high pressure/heat combustion.

Extra oil, more than what recommended, is not good. Your crankshaft will whip up a nice froth bubble whenever your oil is too full and contacts with the crankshaft. This will cause air in the oil in terms will destroy your bearings as air will not lub them very well.

I have a 2006 6M sedan with almost 10k miles. I noticed the same thing with mine. At 1650 mi I changed the oil myself as it was 1/2 qt low. At 4745 mi, I added another 1 1/2 qt. At 5245 mi I changed the oil for the second time. At 6123 mi I added another 1/2 qt. At 8540 mi I changed the oil for the third time & it was 1/2 qt low prior to changing. It is still using oil but seems to be using less. The dealer claims 1 qt per 1000 miles is normal for a breakin? My 1992 Lexus ES 300 5 speed manual with 105k mi never used a drop of oil. I will be keeping a close eye on oil consumption and I check it weekly.

thanks telcoman

and nice choice on the g35 (same as mine)

a half quart at over 1600 miles is ok as it is breaking in but mine has a quart and a half at 800 miles

at that rate it would be three quarts at 1600 miles

i am keeping track of it now i know but is this to much

thanks

i have heard alot of people say that this is the new way to break in the engine but they say to bring it to the redline as soon as your drive off the dealer lot

im very wary of this method as i have owned alot of new vechicles and have followed the break in period and have never had a problem

has anybody tried this method and had the car for a long period of time and not have a problem

thanks

we have already had a few coupes come in for a oil consumption problem...i believe it was something with the valve seals...and they had to have the motor replaced. just keep an eye on it and it does it too much take it to the dealer.
