Hello all,

I have an 06' M35x, it still is running great appox 145k on it , I got an 11 m56x and gave the m35x to my wife, for the first time ever I heard a strange noise while accelerating, and I saw the engine oil light up for a second then go away, I work at the MB dealership, and the techs told me that noise is because the car is very low on oil, and add engine oil, they said I could have even damaged the engine, I did drive it like that for 2 days.

Is there a way to know when I need to add oil? I assume because of the age it burns more oil, is there a way to know without checking the oil stick, it is very hard to put the oil stick back its almost hidden.

I would appreciate any help, I want maintenance it properly.

No, you need to check the stick. And yes, the Infiniti M oil stick is almost useless.

Set a maintenance reminder in the system. Over time I've learned to check my oil stick every 1,000 miles. I normally need to add about 3/4 to 1 quart of oil when the maintenance reminder goes off. I'm at 123,000 miles.

I used to only need about 1/3 to 1/2 quart every 1750 miles, so got into the habit of checking and adding that amount to keep the level between the two marks on the dipstick.

Lately though, it has needed almost a quart every 1750 miles ... hmmm. This occurs about every 6 weeks, so I just check based on mileage. Dipstick works fine on my 2003 M45. Cold engine, of course. Level car inside my garage.

I guess I am blessed! I just passed 132k on my 2007 M35x and don't burn a drop of oil. I change oil and filter around 3500 miles with 5w30 dino oil and do it myself. I like the Infiniti reminder system - works great.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone - I appreciate all of the insight and guidance I get on this forum.

Personally, I've had a V6 (07 M35x) and now have a V8 (11 M56x) and I might have checked the oil once. I use 0W-40 synthetic and change it at 5k religiously so even if I did burn a little I change it often enough that it gets a refill quickly.
