after i run my car hard, there is a white/light blue smoke that comes out from under the plastic trim around the shifter on the passenger side... i ran it pretty hard for about 40 minutes on a downhill, but kept the revs under 5k most of the time... and when i was on the main freeway again i rolled up the windows only to notice the smoke pouring out as described above, this time was much more than i have seen previously, before i only saw a few puffs, and that was only if i drove early in the morning on the freeway constantly passing people... any way... i am going to change the oil as i dont know when the previous owner changed it last, is there anything else that i should look for on the transmission or under the car when i change the oil... thanks for any replies...

you sure you're not burning motor oil and having an exhaust leak?

the engine is pretty solid, im pretty sure its not from the engine, also note there has been no smoke out the tail pipe when there is smoke comeing from the center console

change the gear oil and put in lucas 80W90 gear oil, you may as well change the dif oil while your at it. 2 bottles should do it, advance auto is decent on price. this is a synthetic based oil.

I had this very problem and shortly after it started (2 or 3 thousand miles later) the speed sensor went out. appearantly the sensor wasn't tight and the oil had leaked out and was being heated by the engine thermally conducting to the transmission. I believe if the viscosity breaks down it may also smoke.

after changing my gear oil and dif oil the drivetrain felt much more responsive

(while your poking around the transmission consider removing the clutch dampener for greater feel and response from the pedal)
