Ok guys, just put engine in and stage 2 Crower cams with brand new gt32 turbo. Was wondering if it was normal to burn a lil bit of oil at wot. It only seems to do this at 6000 plus rpm. I did a compression test on engine and 160 acorss. Will putting too much oil in cause this. Anyways, valve train knocks and sounds dry when first starts up. Oil light is also on untill the engine is warmed up. When it's warmed up, than it stops making the sounds and runs smooth. Do you guys have the same problem. BTW, oil is good. Anyways, car overheated yesturday because all my radiater fluid leaked out one of my hose! I did'int catch it untill it was steaming hot and buried in the hot zone. I fixed the leak and now car idles ok, but dies off sometimes. It just loses power sometimes and turns off. I'm thinking the coolant got on the tps and jacked it up because thats where the coolant was leaking to.

how long is the oil light on? shouldn't be more than 1-2 secs after starting, if it is for more, then your oil pump is probably dead and you better replace it before going 6k + rpm.(you don't want that to happen, happened to me, 6k rpm, oil light went on, spun a bearing to the point the engine stopped goin, the oil light used to stay on 3-5+ secs after starting)

so is compression still 160 after overheating? if so you are probably lucky you didn't mess up the gasket or warped the head.

also the valve stem seals usually leak at idle, maybe at WOT also.

Before you go replacing parts, you might diagnose this a little further.

First of all, get a good MECHANICAL oil pressure tester (not an electric gauge that would go in the car...they are good, but not always correct). Test the oil pressure at the sending unit and verify that it's low.

Also, what oil are you running? If you're running some crazy weight like 20w50 on a new engine, there's no way it's gonna pump that stuff up to the top very well until it warms up.

Let us know!

I'm actually using 10 30w. Could it be that too much oil is going to the turbo? Once it's warmed up, it drives fine. It takes about 7 secs before the oil light turns off.

I doubt it. I think you might have some oil pump issues. Test that pressure with a good gauge, as discussed above, and get back to us.

Ok guys, the problem went away by itself, weird huh? Now it just starts up with no oil light or underloob sound. It was a used motor and maybe all it needed was some miles.
